Intro

I have always been good with cooking various dishes, mainly main courses but is not the same thing when it comes to sweats, i kinda suck big time, whenever i tried to cook like a cake or just pancakes or donuts oh boy was a totally disaster and i mean it.

Today as a typical Sunday afternoon i was thinking to cook something new and nice for both me and my boyfriend Muhammet. Starting from today i have just two weeks left until i will return back to my country, even though i am not looking forwards to that days i am trying to stay positive and enjoy every single day. This means cooking something tasty. Muhammet is a big fan of fornetti or as they say in English ''johnnycakes'', one time we try to cook it together in Elazig and they came out fine just the design was lacking and the taste was ahh fifty fifty. Today i was decided to try the recipe again and hopefully succeed this time.

Fornetti with cheese

Fornetti actually is the Italian name for small bakery products which were imported in Romania i guess like 10 years ago. They became such a huge success and i remember my mom always used to buy me when she was coming home from work. They come in various shapes and flavors but among my favorites are the ones with cheese which i cooked today, the ones with pizza and they have also with chicken and mushrooms.

Today i made the fornetti with cheese and i will show you guys step by step how to prepare this super tasty and simple recipe. The ingredients are very few and you just need up to one hour and half to prepare them. So let's get started!

Ingredients

  • 1 egg yolk and 1 normal
  • flour ( 350 gr)
  • oil ( 50 ml)
  • milk (150 ml)
  • cheese
  • salt ( 1 spoon )
  • sugar (1 spoon )
  • yeast
  • caraway

I still had flour and all the other ingredients at home so i just send Muhammet to buy me fast some bread yeast and milk.

Now let's get started!

Step by step recipe

  1. First thing you got to do is open the bread yeast and put in a small coup with some hot milk ( like 50 ml) and one spoon of sugar ( small spoon ) and cover it and let it double it size for a while.
  2. Fornetti with cheese

  3. In the meantime prepare a large bowl and put all flour inside and make like a hole in the middle where you will add the yeast when it's all grown up it's volume. Then you can add also the rest of milk, the oil, the egg yolk and some cheese and the salt.

  5. Now you can start to mix it very well until the all consistency comes throw nicely, or you can just put a man to do this job like me. If the texture is too sticky on your fingers than make sure to add some oil on your hands, it works just fine.
  6. Fornetti with cheese

  7. Shake it, shake it and when is ready let it rest for about one hour in a warm place and make sure to cover it. In this time it needs to grow double it's size.
  8. After one hour approximately and if the dough is all grown up then you can start prepare the fornetti into small shapes.
  9. Place a paper or aluminium foil like me and with a little bit of flour and then start knead the dough until looks nice and perfect.
  10. Fornetti with cheese

  11. Stretch the dough until is about 1 cm volume and start making round shapes with the help of a tea glass or whatever you have handy, but make sure is not to big.
  12. Fornetti with cheese

  13. Prepare the oven, preheat it at about 200 degrees and place some aluminium foil in the cooking pot and then rest the fornetti dough for about 15 minutes.
  14. Fornetti with cheese

Yeah don't laugh i had one extra so i decided to make it into a snake shape, looks funny though.

  15. In the meantime you can crack the other egg and make it like an omlette consistency and after the fornetti is rested add on top of them little bit of egg, is just like painting simple as that. Add also more salt on top and little bit of caraway. Then add also more cheese on them and now are ready to be put in the oven.

  16. Leave them for about 25 minutes at 180 degrees. But when you see the cheese on top is gold then they are ready and you can take them out.

Place them on a plate and enjoy with friends or family
