Crumble with plums and apples
In Romania the autumn’s harvest is rich in plums and apples and what better way to enjoy all of the sweetness and deliciousness of the fruits than by baking some wonderful pies.
The recipe I share with you belongs to my mother’s cuisine and is one of the best. It is called “crumble with plums and apples” and it is as good as it sounds. And I forgot to mention that the recipe is totally vegan, very simple to make and it doesn’t require a lot of time, cooking skills, ustensils and strange ingredients.
The ingredients that you need are:
- 30 plums;
- 4 apples;
- Maple syrup;
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon;
- 4 small packets of vanilla sugar;
- 100 grams of sugar;
- 200 grams of margarine;
- 150 grams of white flour;
- The juice from half a lemon;
- 3 tablespoons of oatmeal.
The fruits
At first, the plums and apples are cut into pieces. Over them, add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 2 small packets of vanilla sugar and 2 teaspoons of maple syrup. Put this mixture into a baking tray that has been covered with baking paper to prevent it from sticking.
The crumble dough
The second step is to prepare the dough. In a bowl mix all of the following together: margarine, sugar, lemon juice, 2 small packets of vanilla sugar, flour and oatmeal. The dough should be heavy and thick.
The last step is to break the dough into small chunks and put it over the plums and apples that have been previously placed into the baking tray. Everything is baked into the oven at a temperature of 200 degrees for about 30 minutes or until the dough is brown.
And pretty much that’s it! The crumble pie is perfect to serve on an afternoon rainy autumn day or whenever you feel like it.
