Which one would you choose?

I have never had a traditional American donut with a hole in the middle and that amazing sugary glaze before moving to the United States of America. And once I tasted one, I cannot stop eating them. And luckily, they are pretty simple to make at home.

So this is the recipe I am usually using.

American donuts

A typical American donut that I got a few days ago at Dunkin' Donuts. And guess what, you can make one just like this at home!

Ingredients

  • 300 grams of all purpose flour
  • 250 milliliters of milk
  • One teaspoon of baking soda
  • One teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Three eggs
  • Five tablespoons of canola oil
  • 100 grams of powdered sugar
  • One pinch of salt
  • Additional powdered sugar for the icing
  • Melted butter for the icing

Preparation

  1. Take a medium sized bowl, where you will combine the flour, baking soda, sugar, vanilla extract, milk, eggs, oil and salt. The dough turns out best if you mix the ingredients with your hands, not with a mixer.
  2. Once done, roll the dough and cut it into 15 to 20 cm long parts, and press the ends together, so they form a circle. Then, bake them for seven to ten minutes at 350 degrees.
  3. Once the donuts are done, let them cool down, and add icing. My favourite icing consists of melted butter and powdered sugar, which you just pour over the top of the donuts.

Enjoy!

As much as I love chocolate, American donuts are just so much better with other glazes.

Storage and serving suggestion

American donuts taste the best with some icing on top, whether it is chocolate, powdered sugar, sprinkles, or a combination of them all.

Regarding the storage, American donuts will taste just as good as they did on the first day if you store them in an airtight container.
