Why did you choose to go to Trier, Germany?

I had found some information about the city and the University of Trier on the Internet and it sounded really good to me!

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship lasts just for 5 months, that is one semester.. but you can always make the request to stay the whole year! I received 1150 €... but it's not enough for 5 whole months here...

What is the student lifestyle like in Trier?

It's awesome! The University organizes partys, excursions, social events of any kind... that helps also the international students to integrate with the German students and with the life in Trier! Actually the German guys are not so friendly.. but when they start drinking ("when" means every night) they become the best friends in the world!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Trier to other students?

Yes, absolutely! I would live the rest of my life here!

What is the food like?

If you like Wurst, bread and potatoes it's ok! But they are not able at all to cook pasta. Seriously. However in Trier there's plenty of Italian restaurants, which I personally tried and I can say that they're really good.

And the cakes..never eaten some as good as in Trier!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Trier?

No, the Erasmus Office allocated me in one of the dormitories of the University!

How much does it cost to live in Trier?

I'd say 750€ per month. But if you like travelling, partying and shopping... a little bit more.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The University helps you with the language. There's the faculty Deutsch als Fremdsprache which holds language courses of different levels.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Trier?

There are so many clubs, pubs and Kneipe (typical Gemrman bars). Some names: Club11, Safari (entrance free before midnight), Grüne Rakete, Metropolis (but too expensive), Havanna, Irish Pub...

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Trier?

I recommend:

  • The Italian restaurant in Olewig, Hunsrückstr.
  • 'Ponticello', good and cheap!
  • Or Pizza Hut in the city centre.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Porta Nigra, Amphitheater, Basilica of Constantine, the cathedral...
