What is it like to live in Regensburg? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Regensburg is a really nice city located directly on the Donau river. The historical city center is really beautiful with lots of shops. Regensburg is famous for its bars. In summer you can buy a beer and a cocktail and just sit outside by the river. Also, there are nice places to have a BBQ on the river islands. I really love to live in Regensburg and I can highly recommend it.

What is the student lifestyle like in Regensburg?

The university is located not too far from the city center. The sports center provides many sport courses which you can attend (volleyball, yoga, pilates, functional training, soccer, karate and many more). It´s quite cheap (15 € per semester). There are some faculty parties mostly in summer. The university is a campus university so all faculties are located at the same place. Which is perfect if you have a language class are want to go to the sports center.

How much does it cost to live in Regensburg?

It´s quite expensive, but with a little luck, you may be able to get into one of the cheaper student residences (around 300 €). Also sometimes shared apartments are less expensive.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Regensburg? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, I would say so. The best is just not giving up. If you are there for limited time (1 - 6 months) check websites for apartments for limited time (in German: Wohnung/ WG zur Zwischenmiete).

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is, of course, Bavarian style, which means a lot of meat. I can´t really advise you about traditional food because I´m a vegetarian and I don´t really like it.

What places would you recommend visiting in Regensburg?

There is, of course, the cathedral in the city center. At the Donau river, there is the Stone Bridge. Also, it is really nice to go by ship to the Walhalla.

Is it good to eat out in Regensburg? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is really good to eat out in Regensburg. I can recommend the Indian restaurant Ganesha, it´s near the train station and has many delicious vegetarian dishes and there is also the possibility to make them vegan. For vegans there are also some restaurants which serve vegan food one is the TARA-café and another is the af1e dada.

Also, there are really good sushi restaurants and also Thai restaurants in Regensburg. Also, a really nice place is the Jalapenos. It´s a Mexican restaurant which also serves cocktails. In summer you can sit outside on the patio. Also, there is music and a dance floor. Also, a really nice place is the middle ages bar Zur geflickten Trommel. Here you can drink met and beer and also they serve Flammkuchen.

Is the nightlife good in Regensburg? Where is good to go?

Regensburg has a lot of bars. I can recommend Bar 13 which is a really small bar. On the first Monday of a month, you can sing karaoke there. There are also some discos like ZAP, Suzie Wong etc.

What advice would you give future students heading to Regensburg?

Don´t worry if you get lost in the city center. It still happens to me sometimes and I lived here for over 2 years.
