Why did you decide to go to Regensburg, Germany?

I decided to go there because, along with my English, I wanted to improve my German. Also, Bavaria is the most unique region in Germany, with its own culture.

How long was your stay there? What kind of grant did you receive?

I was there for 11 months, from September 2016 till the end of July 2017.

How is the atmosphere in Regensburg?

The atmosphere is very good for international and German students. I think the classes are a lot easier than they are in France, for example.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Regensburg to other students?

I would strongly recommend it for its location and the quality of teaching.

How is the food in this country?

The food isn't particularly amazing but the specialties raise the bar a little. But coming from France, it's quite difficult to find better food than at home abroad (oops).

Did you have difficulties finding accommodation?

No, because the university arranges accommodation for all international students. These aren't shared rooms, and they're very affordable.

What are the living costs in Regensburg?

I was expecting pretty expensive rates, but to my great surprise it's not too expensive.

How did you find learning the language? Did you attend any language courses offered by the university?

There are intensive language classes that are on one month before the beginning of each semester (fee required) and also language classes during the semester (free).

I participated in the intensive course in September, and then every semester afterwards.

What is the cheapest way to get to Regensburg from your home city?

From my city (Bordeaux) the plane and then the train is the easiest (around 150 euro). Bordeaux - Frankfurt, then 20 euro on the train from Frankfurt to Regensburg. Another possible route is via Munich, arriving in Paris (around 70 euro).

Where would you recommend in Regensburg for going out?

You should know that there are evening parties in the student residences practically every evening, if not there are clubs, pretty much all in the same location. (BEATS, Gatsby, Suite 15... )

And for going out to eat in Regensburg? What are your favourite spots?

For going out to eat I would recommend Ha Tien, since Asian food is really affordable. Another place is Café Lila, equally affordable and most importantly, very nice (my favourite place).

And what cultural sights would you recommend?

Walhalla, a copy of a Greek temple near the city, the Museum of History.

The fair that takes place in September and then again in May - it's similar to Oktoberfest but the Regensburg version.

Any advice for future students of Regensburg?

Life there is not too expensive so there's no need to stress, regarding financial costs. There is really good weather from May to October, very cold during the winter (to be expected for Germany, though), and there is a chance it will snow non-stop for two months.
