Tulum
Tulum is situated in Quintana Roo which in its time, formed part of the Mayan Riviera. This place is famous because in antiquity, the Mayan civilisation had a lot of importance.
It's a walled city which used to act as a strategic place in front of other tribes or boats which could get there from the Caribbean sea since its really high cliff served as an exterior barrier and the waves worsened their chances of getting over it.
When we got to this place, it was so hot, the sun was burning so don't forget to apply sun cream thoroughly and top it up every two or three hours. I ended up red as a tomato because I thought that only one application would be sufficient - I was wrong.
The place is beautiful, the blueish colour of the sea is spectacular and I was lucky enough to enjoy the sea on the beach which I will tell you about now. There are so many Mayan ruins and so many iguanas; this caught my attention a lot since some where enormous - it's funny to "play" with them, whilst some disappear as soon as you get near them, others are so used to the presence of humans hat they remain immobile.
One of the things which caught my attention the most about the buildings was the height of the door, they were very small so the ancient Mayans were probably quite short, it makes sense seeing as the Latin Americans nowadays are also quite short so imagine their ancestors who were less developed!
The beach where I swam was beautiful and spectacular, you have to go down some wooden stairs but honestly, you don't know whether to go down or stand there astonished looking at the beauty of the views. On one side the sea breeze caresses your face, on the other side you see a typical cinematic contrast, on one side there's nature, palm trees and a green forest covering the cliff which is formed from giant rocks and on the other side, a turquoise blue sea with other darker areas.
Everyone was enjoying the sun and almost everyone went swimming, the sand is very fine and something that surprised me a fair bit is that with all the heat, I didn't burn, something that does happen on the Murcian beaches.
Another thing which I liked a lot were the huge stones that were in the middle of the beach, covered in sand which are great to take photos of. There's another beach very close to the beach that I am talking about where there is a beach bar, which attracted me.
I ordered a chocolate milkshake for myself and my friend got a lime drink and we enjoyed being far from all the leisure activities that there are in Tulum on a solitary beach with a beach bar for ourselves. We had a small setback when a dog suddenly appeared on the beach but we realised that it was the beach bar owner's dog, it was honestly great.
In conclusion, if you're going to Tulum then come prepared for the sun and mosquitoes, bear in mind that you're going to go for a swim in the Caribbean sea with your friends which is practically the best moment of the trip and find the latter beach which I've told you about because it's really worth it.
Going to Tulum, as I always say, is better if you go with tour guides or tourist programmes because in Mexico, it's dangerous to go to some places by yourself. I got there by bus because as well as being the safest method, you also have a guide for the whole day who explains everything more clearly than if you were by yourself or trying to find information on the internet.
