Cenote

A cenote is nothing more than a hole with water. They usually have a circular shape and connect with ground water. They often have vines which to me, seems to make them even more beautiful.

Apparently, there are many cenotes within the Yucatan peninsular; the majority being connected together and being able to contain either fresh water (normally) or salt water.

The cenote which I went to in Mexico was quite a beautiful experience. We got off the coach at the top. Above, there are some showers in which you can wash yourselves, both before and after diving into the Cenote.

Cenote

Only a swimsuit and a shower is usually required to be able to dive. It was a very striking experience. I had to queue to be able to dive from a very high point.

Whilst you are in the queue, you see people throwing themselves into the waters beneath you, which scares you slightly but you lose this fear immediately. The person who was in front of me, dived in head first but I wasn't so brave. I dove in with my feet together and plunged deeply. On opening my eyes, I saw all of the peoples' feet kicking and looking below, everything was all a bit black. It scares you a bit but when you rise to the surface, everything changes.

Cenote

On the surface, there are a large amount of people laughing and talking. Truthfully, it reminds me a bit of the scene in the Titanic where they were all kicking and swimming, but it was very constructive and an act of self-improvement on my part.

If you're going to travel to Mexico, I recommend you to be brave and to drive into the cenote that you're tourist programme will bring you too. It is worth it and a spectacular experience.
