How to get there?

To get to the Museo de la Tecnología, you can easily travel there by metro, alighting at the stop, Constituyentes, just leaving you to cross the street. It's located in a very convenient area in the Chapultepec neighbourhood, so when visiting this museum, you can take your time to see the adjacent museums like the Papalote Museo del Niño (highly recommendable to go to the Megapantalla IMAX and Domo Digital), the Chapultepec forest, the castle, the National Anthropology and Natural History Museums, the Museum of Modern Art, etc.

History of the museum and entrance fees

The museum was created by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) with the objective of promoting technology in education among the population, mainly in the fields of maths and physics, so, for this reason, entry to the museum is free.

Description of the museum

The museum has a lot of green areas, where old government planes are found. Within the museum, there are two rooms on the ground floor, and two more on the top floor. One of the rooms on the ground floor focuses on electricity - both its creation and its transmission.

It's very educational and you can, first of all, try out the principles of physics. In that room, they made my hair fluffy and stand on end when touching a huge electrically-charged ball. It's great to go with children, as they have a lot of fun with these kind of things.

Very fun, but very much aimed at children.

As an adult, it's not as fun to go, as we already know lots of these principles from school, so the biggest source of entertainment for us is playing with the educational materials that they have and giving them a couple of goes. The next room is more visual: there are lots of mirrors that make you look fatter or thinner, create optical illusions, etc. The area that I liked the most is that the one that has a robot created with artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The most boring area of all is the one about road safety, however, it is recommendable for small children as they learn why they have to wear a seatbelt, through a car crash simulation. At the entrance, there is a planetarium with events held at certain times of the day. It also has a gift shop, but it's not very big and the products aren't that cool. I don't remember having seen a restaurant, but you can eat in the vicinity with there being many food outlets in the same street. However, if you don't trust these, you can eat in the food court in Papalote, which is a short walking distance away.

Recommendations

It's recommendable to go wearing comfortable clothing, and you don't need lots of money. I would not go back again until I have children, as it's very much aimed at young children. If you want to visit, make it more of a backup plan. It was nice to know that the government is making this kind of investment in education for young people.

Very fun, but very much aimed at children.
