Unawatuna costal area is located at the southern part of the country closer to Galle and Hikkaduwa. This is a nice place to enjoy the beach, sea food and beach parties. This area is so beautiful due to the golden colour sand, coral reef, green coconut and palm-lined beach.

Beach is perfect for swimming, diving, surfing, jet ski ridings, boat ridings, yoga, cycling, enjoy the sun set etc. besides that, you can enjoy cruise trips to the middle of the sea to visit whales and dolphins. But I would like to recommend Kalpitiya area to visit dolphin and whales than Unawatuna since there is huge possibility to visit whales and dolphins. You can arrange a boat for a group or only for yourself in Kalpitiya to visit whales and dolphins.

In this beach area, you can visit coral reef and colourful fish. Sometimes, you can see they are dancing in the water, while you are swimming even so close to the beach. During your stay, you can visit jungle beach, Japanese Peace Pagoda, turtles from the hatchery. But the turtles from the hatchery located at Habaraduwa, where you can reach within few mins from Unawatuna.

I would like to recommend go to Galle and visit the Galle Fort, which was built in the colonized era of the Portuguese. It was built in the sixteen centuries with stones, reflecting the great architecture of the Portuguese. Today, this is very famous place among lovers since most of the young people chose this place to pass the time. Furthermore, you can visit the Galle light house, which is located closer to the Galle fort. You can see the beautiful scenery of the coastal area and the beach from the top of the light house.

In the coastal area, you can see lot of restaurants, hotels, gift shops and lot more things, which provide a comfortable stay. I have been in this place several times and I could enjoy lot of tasty sea foods after playing in the beach whole day. Furthermore, you can enjoy typical Sri Lankan village mealsoutside of the coastal area.

You can find many star class hotels as well as the guesthouses in Unawatuna for a reasonable price. Most of the hotels provide tour guide facilities, surfing board facilities, boats, jet skis etc.

Reaching to this area is not difficult thanks to the highways, which was built recently. So, you can enjoy a comfortable stay in this area, while having lot more fun. Some of the photographs have extracted from the internet to emphasis the true beauty of this place.
