Hikkaduwa Beach, Sri Lanka

This a wonderful place to visit coral gardens, sea diving, swimming, surfing and relaxing. This area is well known for beach parties and entertaining activities. You can reach there by train or by bus. Also, if you go by your own vehicle then you can reach there easily by using highways.

It is located in the southern coastal area of the country. Southern part of the country is a bit different than the other parts of the country. This place have beautiful sand beaches. For that reason, it was one of my favorite spots, which we used to swim with my friends during the university time. In the evening, it is really nice to walk in the beach with the sunset, is so romantic. Another activity very common is yoga in the morning.

This beach is different from the beaches in the European countries since beach is a bit covered with coconut trees and other typical bushes. That enhance the naturalistic view of the beach. One advice, do not sit under the coconut trees because sometimes coconuts fall out of the blue.

You can have boat rides to coral gardens and dive in the sea. This boat trip is not expensive. If you pay for it, you will see lots of beautiful fishes and turtles. . Also, they have some offers for group of people. If you are interested in turtles, this city has a turtle’s hatchery. There are lots of new born and white turtles which are so rare to find in the world.

FOOD you can find lots of restaurants which offers traditional and western foods. Especially, tasty sea food with crabs, lobsters, different types of fish and other types of sea foods. Sometimes, these dishes are bit expensive but my advice is to check the menu and prices before entering to the restaurant. I guarantee that you can find lots of good restaurants under a reasonable price.

ACCOMMODATION You can find lots of hotels in this area. According to my opinion prices of the hotel vary according to the star class and the facilities they offer you. Most of the time star class hotels in Sri Lanka is a bit expensive, but I must say that they offer different variety of foods which give you the best quality and the taste. If you are going to stay in this kind of hotels, they will offer you umbrellas and chairs and other necessary things.

Finally, you can find lots of spas especially Ayurveda treatments which is like a traditional spa with natural herbs. It is an amazing thing to to do if you go to this city.
