Bould Brothers: Cambridge's chicest café

Published by flag-gb Madeline Gowers — 4 years ago

Good evening from sunny Cambridge! Today’s been one of those ‘too hot to do anything’ kind of days (33ºC may not seem that high a temperature to some of you, but trust me: it’s enough to bring most of Britain to a standstill). However, after getting some work done in the morning, my mum and I decided to venture outside, and treat ourselves to a coffee date in town. Bould Brothers was our café of choice. It’s my mum’s regular, but this was actually my first time checking it out. Keep reading to discover what I thought of the place!

The menu

My mum and I had just eaten lunch, so we ended up just getting drinks. She went for her usual macchiato coffee, but I – not able to handle anything hot – decided to go for an ice cold rose lemonade. These we enjoyed greatly, alongside glasses of water, which had been flavoured with fresh strawberry and cucumber slices. Full marks from me, beverages-wise; I’ll have to go back some time, though, to sample a couple of their homemade cakes!

The interior design

If you’re looking for an Instagrammable coffee spot in Cambridge, this is definitely a good place to head. With its potted plants, classy wallpapers and quirky lights (I'm talking lampshades made from cake tins!), it’s a delight for the eyes, both upstairs and down.

The atmosphere

Bould Brothers had a very chilled atmosphere, and my mum and I both felt totally relaxed as we sat sipping our drinks on the sunny terrace. The café definitely had a bit more of an adult vibe to it – I think I was the youngest customer by quite some way – but if anything, this made the place a lot calmer.

The staff

As usual, I can’t say that I spent much time chatting to the members of staff on duty, but any interactions I did have were most pleasant. Service was quick, and the barista in charge of us told me that I could take as many photos of the café as I liked (very important, when you’re trying to blog about a place!).

Would I go back?

I absolutely would go back to Bould Brothers, and, since my mum is one of their most loyal customers, almost definitely will! If you’re looking for a chic (and Vogue-approved!) coffee shop in the centre of Cambridge, this place should definitely be top of your list. Bon appétit, and happy sipping!
