St. John's College is beautiful
About St. John's College
St. John's College is a college of the University of Cambridge. The full, formal name of the college is "The Master, Fellows and Scholars of the College of St John the Evangelist in the University of Cambridge". It was founded by Lady Margaret Beaufort in 1511. The college is named after The Hospital of St. John the Evangelist. Its "alumni" include the winners of nine Nobel Prizes, seven prime ministers and twelve archbishops, at least two princes, and three Saints.
The Main Gate of St John's College on St John's Street, decorated with the arms of the foundress. Its Chapel was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and reminds me of Hogwarts from Harry Potter series.
Bridge of Sighs
There is a famous St. John's College bridge, Bridge of Sighs, which you can see when punting through the river Cam and it is very beautiful. Well, I’ve written about my experiences in Cambridge and one of them was punting in Cambridge, which was pretty fun and memorable, and the things we saw were amazing. It’s all different when you see things from another side. Just like it’s said in that film called “Dead Poets Society” in the scene when the teacher tells his students to go up on tables and see everything from up there.
We went to see St. John’s College on our last day at Studio Cambridge Sir George School. The organizer Tom took us there. There were us, Italians and Germans on that city excursion. So, we walked into that one of the greatest Colleges in the world. It was really amazing from outside, as I’ve mentioned, but it was more beautiful from inside. I couldn’t stop taking photos as I wanted to capture every single detail that fascinated me.
There were students and professors walking in hallwaysand there were some renovating works done, so some workers were working in a corner and there were ladders and stuff like that.
We walked into the building, which led to a yard, and this yard had this green lawn all over the place. It had rained the night before and that made the lawn even greener than it usual. It was just a perfect English place, as I imagined from my childhood. The first yard had those lines that crossed each other to enter the building from different places and there were four lawns between them. Then you go to another arch and go to another yard and there are so many archs and hallways, that you can’t really count. And the whole college is really large, though it may not seem like it from outside.
Well, it is a great honor to study in one of the colleges like this, undoubtedly.
