Florence: A renaissance of veganism
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. Essentially, vegetanarism is when someone chooses not to eat any meat products. Anyone can worry about the quality of the food we eat and where it comes from.
Becoming a vegan is not a synonym for sadness or isolation. Florence is a brilliant testament, where such important traditions have evolved for millions of tourists to discover.
Tradition and innovation
Beyond its cultural and artistic attractions, Florence is capable of satisfying all different tastes, no matter how diverse.
You can easily find a good pizzeria there, or an excellent trattoria. But, it has lots of new styles to offer, just as much as Tuscany is proud of its agricultural traditions.
It has been growing culturally for the last decade, in the centre and in the outskirts, restaurants, bakeries and cafes are all offering vegan choices, so tasty that you will definitely be surprised.
At Panino Vegano or at Shake café, treat yourself to one of their excellent fruit juices, desserts, cold dishes or sandwiches, all void of any animal products. At Miso di Riso or at Il Vegetariano, you can appreciate true Italian cuisine made only from fruit and vegetables and appreciate the fresh salads served by Lovelife Centro, which opened in 2014.
As for boulangeries, you cannot miss the Maison Pugi, which opened in 1925 but now offers two vegan menus which are very popular.
At NaturaSi, you can buy chocolate and other bio products or products without gluten. At ChezSave, you can find shoes, bags and belts which are all vegan.
Everything on sale at Bio B&B Villa Medicea is completely animal friendly, from soap to breakfast food!

A stop at café Gilli is a must! This Florentine institution will surprise you with their interesting aperitifs, with totally new and delicious hors d'oeuvres.
You can try delicous bio recipes of excellent quality at librairie-café Brac, which is really unique and cosy inside.
Finally, we cannot wander around the city under the blazing sun without enjoying one thing... an Italian ice-cream. Festival de gelato, Maison Dei Neri, Gelato di Filo, Perche No, the best ice cream makers in Florence all propose vegan alternatives that are really tasty. A special mention to Grom who offer gluten, nut and egg free varieties.
