Using peanut skin

The introduction

Hello everyone, in this article I want to tell you about my decision about peanuts and their skin, in particular.

Well, I had these peanuts bought the other day, which were pretty much great and I had roasted them in my convection oven and I have written about it, too, in another article, and they were just great. However, they were plenty and as much as I had them eaten, there were those skin pieces left in the bowl, where I had those peanuts put and there were so many skin pieces left there, that it was kind of impossible to take the peanuts out of it and it needed too much time and effort to do that, so I decided to google some things about peanuts and, well, see if there was any help about those peanut skins and whether I could use them in anything or not... And if I couldn’t find anything useful on the Internet, then I would just have to take some peanuts out of that bowl until I felt tired and then just throw those things in the bowl away, because there wouldn’t be any use for that stuff anymore.

So I surfed the Internet and I found out, that you could use the peanuts’ skin. However, it was not written how in particular, but they said, that peanuts’ skin contained many vitamins and they were good for our health and, I guess, what they were telling us was that you could prepare some peanut butter with peanuts and their skin together, and there were recipes about that. However, I already had some peanut butter and I didn’t really want to prepare it with those skins. Because it was said that I could use peanuts’ skin in nutrition, I decided to have them in my chopper-blender and have them like flouror something and use them into my baking. However, I didn’t really know what I would get with that, though I still decided to try and do it because I didn’t have anything else to do. Besides, I was really interested in what I would get with all those things together. And I was going to prepare that pound cake in my convection oven and, perhaps, it would be with some chocolate or cocoa powder, as I mostly prepare pound cakes.

Grinding the peanuts and their skins

So, I put those peanuts’ skin pieces into the chopper-blender and started it and it made them be chopped into very small pieces. However, it was not enough so I added some water to the bowl and started it again. It still was not like flour and the pieces were kind of not as small as I wanted, so I added some more liquid ingredients, but this time I added some milk and then started it again. Soon it was obvious, that it was not possible to make the pieces any smaller, and, well, I thought that they were okay to be in my pound cake and the taste was good too. However, it may have been a little too much for the ingredients that I used for my pound cake after that, because it still was noticeable that there was something else in the ingredients, which made the pound cake taste strange. But not in a very bad way, I must say.

Well, now that the peanuts and their skins were almost grinded and kind of blendered, I just had to add other ingredients, which I was going to use to prepare the pound cake and then it would be good to go to the convection oven into that pound cake baking pan. Then I would just have to wait and see, how it would taste after that.

Ingredients:

  • Peanuts with skin
  • Sour cream, 1 tablespoon
  • Egg, 1 medium
  • Oil, 3 tablespoons
  • Unsalted butter, 20 grams
  • White granulated sugar, ½ cup
  • Baking soda, 1 teaspoon
  • Drops of vinegar
  • Vanilla
  • Cocoa powder
  • All-purpose flour, ½ cup

Preparation process

  1. So, the preparation process started with the prepared blenderred peanuts with skins into the bowl. I added an egg and the sugar and started the chopper-blender again, so that everything would get mixed together well, then I added the oil and the butter and mixed them together again for a minute or so. After that, I had a teaspoon of baking soda on a spoon and added some drops of vinegar and then add it to the sour cream in a small cup and whisked. And then I added the mixture to the bowl and mixed all those things well together again.
  2. Then all I needed was to add the vanilla package and some cocoa powder and some all-purpose flour, however, the mixture shouldn’t get very thick, or else, it would not be that soft and moist as it should have been. So I carefully added the flour and at first, I added half of the amount and then, when I saw, that I could add some more, then I added more, you know. It’s like, if you add too much flour, then it all will be for nothing and you will just have a bread and not a pound cake, because pound cake should have less flour and so that it will be soft and moist, otherwise, it won’t be as it should be, as I have already mentioned above.
  3. So, after adding all those ingredients and mixing well together, I tasted the dough and it tasted pretty good, so that I decided to have it put into the baking pan and put it into the convection oven. I took the baking pan and greased it with some oil and then I poured the dough into it and put the lid on and put it on a low rack into the convection oven, which I set for 50 minutes on 180 degrees Celsius.
  4. I was really looking forward to the pound cake to be ready to see whether my decision was right or wrong and after that 50 minutes, when the convection oven went off, I took the baking pan out and couldn’t even wait for it to get a little bit cooled down and I just turned it upside down, so that the pound cake would come out and I would see how it was. Though it needed a little help getting out and it was pretty moist inside, so that some pieces went off, but it was nothing, and I continued getting it out. It had this great smell of peanuts and it was still very hot for me to taste it. However, after some time, it kind of got colder and I just tasted it and it tasted good, mostly of peanuts. And though there were some things noticeable from those peanuts skin pieces, it was not that bad and you could eat it as a delicious pound cake and it was soft and moist and that was what gave the pound cake its deliciousness, too.
  5. Using peanut skin

  6. Well, anyways, now you know, that if you have some extra peanuts and their skins left, you shouldn’t throw them away, rather, you can use them in your baking, or, you can prepare some peanut butter, which I haven’t tried, but you can do that, and you can just google it and see how it’s prepared. And, well, I must say, that peanut butter costs pretty expensive in Georgia and that’s why it’s not that popular thing here as it is in USA and in other countries, too, I guess. However, it’s really a good thing to eat and especially with nutella chocolate paste, I really love when both of them are mixed on a cookie or a slice of bread and eaten that way.
  7. So, if you love pound cakes and peanuts, then you can have them both into a peanut pound cakeand eat it and it is really good, if you want to know the truth. At least, I liked it, and I’m sure, that you will like it, too. Using peanut skin
