Hey guys, it has not been long since I last updated my blog. Now I want to suggest a great recipe for a great sweet dish that my family enjoys much and it’s really delicious, if you ask me. It’s sweet somehow and really kind of light to eat and you enjoy every bite that you chew.

The dish is called Sweet Rice, I guess. In Georgian it is “Tkbili Flavi” _ “tkbili” means “sweet” and “flavi” means some kind of porridge.

So, about the ingredients:

  • Rice 0.8 kilogrammes
  • Raisins 150 grams
  • Green apple medium 1
  • Vanilla 1 pack
  • White granulated sugar 200 grams
  • Oil 3 tbs
  • Apricot dried 50 grams
  • Plum dried 50 grams
  • Water

Preparation process

The preparation process is not very hard, actually it can be said that it is pretty easy if you know what you’re doing!

First of all, you should choose the right rice, and by that I mean that there is this kind of rice that is perfect for this dish. In Georgian they call it “Fantia” rice, which means that when cooked, it doesn’t stick together as the classic rice sticks together and so that this rice is easier to eat and digest, I guess. How can you know that this is the right rice, you may ask. Well, it is longer than the usual rice and it is kind of darker than the white rice and lighter than the brown rice. Maybe if you ask the seller which one is for sweet rice dish they can tell you exactly what to buy.sweet-rice-bc77223a7451e99bd74b859104cc1

So, you can either soak the rice for a night or for half an hour or more or you can just cook it at once without soaking and stuff. I usually don’t soak them or soak them for half an hour or so, because it can be cooked pretty fast. You just have to wash the rice very thoroughly, then put it into medium saucepan and add some water, maybe two or three times more water than the rice, or you can even add more water, it doesn’t really matter, because when it’s cooked, you can just spill the water out of the saucepan. Usually when the water boils it takes 30 minutes or somethinglike that for the rice to be cooked. You can taste it to make sure it is cooked just like you want it to. So then you can spill the water, take the rice out and add some cold water to it just like you are washing it. Sometimes I add some sugar to the rice while it’s cooking, so that it already has some sweet taste when it’s cooked.

Now that the rice is cooked, you can prepare the sweet things!

First of all, you want to prepare the apple. You should peel the apple and cut it into small pieces. Then you should put them into an oiled pan and cook themfor a while, until they get brownish and stuff like that.

You should soak the raisins and apricot and plum dried fruits together in some water. Then, when the apple is ready, you can add those raisins and dried fruits to the apples and cook them in a pan for a while. Then you can take all those to a saucepan. And don’t forget the vanilla, too! Or maybe you can prepare all these apples and stuff together in a saucepan in the first place, and that’s good because you won’t have to use extra dishes for no reason!

Now that we have all those things prepared, you can add the rice to the sweet things and stir. There is only one thing left to do and that is to dissolve the sugar into some water and add it to the mixture in the saucepan. And while some people like the dish very sweet, some people don’t, so it’s really up to you how you prefer your dish to be. So, you can taste it time to time and decide when the sugar is enough. And I can tell you that while the apple gives the dish kind of sour taste, the raisins and dried fruit give it very sweet taste, so you should be careful about the sugar!

After all this, you can cook everything together for some time _ for the rice to blend into all the other things and the dish is ready!

I can tell, that the dish becomes really pretty at the end and you can enjoy it very much. You can even decorate it while you serve it and, trust me, everyone will love this dish when they taste it!
