Sangrrría

Going on with Spanish recipes, this time I'm writing about the typical Spanish drink Sangría. Since I think it is really fascinating, let's start with saying something about the context. The Spanish word "sangre" literally means "blood". In fact, as you might imagine, the colour of Sangría resembles the colour of blood a bit.

I have to say, it is quite easy to prepare. The best thing about it is that it can be a cocktail or you can drink it as you would drink plain wine. Any which way, it is a tasty and refreshing drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 bottles red wine - it has to be sweet, absolutely NOT dry. It could also be fruity, the other characteristics does not really matter.
  • 1 bottle soda
  • 1 bottle orange juice (or if you prefer, you can use Fanta or similar. This way you don't have to put soda)
  • 2 peaches
  • 2 red apples
  • 2 red pears
  • 2 oranges
  • 4 tablespoons white sugar

The guys at https://kitchenstories.io/en/recipes/spanish-sangria decided to slice the peaches instead of chopping them. You can shape the fruit how you wish, but keep in mind that sliced fruit is bigger, so in case you're using a pitcher it can be harder to serve it.

Suggestion: you can put whatever fruit you like inside. Like it is shown on here, it is down to personal taste.

In fact they used lime slices, orange slices, blackberries, lemon slices, pineapple and apples. You can also use raspberries, kiwis, and really whatever fruit you wish to use. I recommend not using bananas and persimmons, because they will melt.

As for the kitchen tools, you'll only need a pitcher - or two, depending on the size. Otherwise you can use a ponch bowl instead. Then a tablespoon and a scoop to serve.

For instance at the time I took this picture I had no pitchers, so I've used a large bowl.

Directions

Proceed with peeling and chopping the peaches, apples and pears in small cubes. They should be approximately the size of a coin. Place them in the pitcher (or bowl).

Stir in one bottle of wine, the soda and the orange juice and mix them together. Then stir in the other bottle of wine and add the 4 tablespoons of sugar while you're mixing.

The Sangría is ready.

I suggest you leave it in the fridge for at least 2 hours before serving it. This way, the fruit will absorb the wine better and it will be a lot tastier.

As you can see, I made Sangría for Halloween. All my friends loved it!
