Rabadanas - the sweet Portuguese toast
If you need an idea for breakfast or dessert and you love cinnamon, here it is one!
Ingredients
- A loaf of stale bread (around 8 slices);
- Milk, red wine or both to dip the bread in;
- ~4 eggs;
- Sugar and cinnamon for coating;
- Oil for frying.
The process
- Cut the bread into slices.
- Dip the slice into milk, red wine of both. The best mixture, in my opinion, is mixing milk with a good Port wine, it adds that extra sweetness and Porto in it.
- Dip the slice into the whisked eggs.
- Put the slice into a pan with hot oil and fry them until they are golden brown.
- Depending on the taste you can dry the fried slices with some paper kitchen towels.
- Coat the slices with a lot of the mixture made from sugar and cinnamon.
- EAT! :))
During my Erasmus, I had this kind of toast for dinner also, next to a glass of Port wine. You know, it’s good for warming up in the winter evenings, especially there, because the Portuguese people do not have a reliable heating system (as the central one, for example) and it’s pretty cold in the houses.
