Rabadanas - the sweet Portuguese toast

If you need an idea for breakfast or dessert and you love cinnamon, here it is one!

Rabadanas - the sweet Portuguese toast

Ingredients

  • A loaf of stale bread (around 8 slices);
  • Milk, red wine or both to dip the bread in;
  • ~4 eggs;
  • Sugar and cinnamon for coating;
  • Oil for frying.

The process

  1. Cut the bread into slices.
  2. Dip the slice into milk, red wine of both. The best mixture, in my opinion, is mixing milk with a good Port wine, it adds that extra sweetness and Porto in it.
  3. Dip the slice into the whisked eggs.
  4. Put the slice into a pan with hot oil and fry them until they are golden brown.
  5. Depending on the taste you can dry the fried slices with some paper kitchen towels.
  6. Coat the slices with a lot of the mixture made from sugar and cinnamon.
  7. EAT! :))

During my Erasmus, I had this kind of toast for dinner also, next to a glass of Port wine. You know, it’s good for warming up in the winter evenings, especially there, because the Portuguese people do not have a reliable heating system (as the central one, for example) and it’s pretty cold in the houses.

I hope you’ll enjoy it! Tell me how it is!
