The introduction

Hello everyone, I hope, that you are all doing just fine!

In this article I want to tell you about me preparing this large cake, which was my first time preparing something like that, I mean, I had prepared some things like those type of cakes and everything and I got kind of good at it, though I had not done a large cake like this in my life until now and it came out pretty good, I can say. Well, I haven’t tasted it yet, because I’m waiting for my mother to come to taste it together, I mean, it’s mother’s day today and that’s like my surprise for her, you know. So that while I’m writing this article, I will have the moment of cutting that cake and I will tell you how it tastes, too, however, when I tasted some leftover things yesterday, it really tasted delicious, so that I hope, that she will love it, too.

To be honest, I didn’t really think, that it would become that huge, I mean, it’s not like there will be some guests or many people or whatever and, hence, it’s a good idea to have a small cake when you want to just celebrate something in a shy  way, or if you just want to have a piece of cake, but you want to prepare it yourself and in your way and just like the way you want, you know. So that I was looking for the smallest biscuit possible to have a small cake, however, it was still large for the sizes, that I intended to have and, well, what could I do? I just took that biscuit and decorated it with cream filling and things like that, of course.

Anyways, I must tell you, that I didn’t bake the biscuit, as it is pretty hard to have that exact same biscuit that you want, I mean, I never get any good biscuits in my oven and I don’t really know why, maybe it’s because I don’t  really use those ingredients, which are supposed to be for that baking form, because maybe that baking for is larger than I expect, or maybe it’s the temperature regulation, I don’t really know, however, there I can bake some great pizza and I just love preparing pizza in that oven, if you want to know the truth.

So, I knew, that I had to waste my time and effort and nerves just to prepare that biscuit and it wouldn’t be just as I wanted, so that I went to this Pasazhi shopping center, which I already told you about in my other article, and I started looking at those different biscuits, which looked pretty delicious and good, I can say. And they were pretty large ones, too, and I didn’t really want to buy a large one, because I knew, that there would be only 3 or 4 people eating that cake, because there are not many people in our family, you know, and so that if it was large, then it would be a waste, because I would have to throw some leftovers in the trash, because it’s not that possible to eat that huge cake in that situation. Well, the smallest one seemed pretty large, too, however, I had to buy a biscuit and so that I took that one and it cost 5 Laris and it was wrapped in this cute wrapping paper and it had a nice yellow ribbon on it, too, so that it looked pretty lovely, if you want to know the truth.

Well, I didn’t really know, what it would taste like, however, I knew, that it wouldn’t be bad, because otherwise there wouldn’t be any people buying those biscuits there, you know, and I really wanted to eat some really good and delicious cake and I didn’t want to waste my time on preparing the biscuit myself, because I knew, that it wouldn’t be as I wanted and, besides, I didn’t really have a baking form where you pour the dough and put it in the oven and prepare it for your cake, so that I had to buy a biscuit if I wanted to have a cake. And these things looked pretty good, so that I took one of them and paid and hoped, that it would taste delicious.

I also had some chocolate buttons bought for the chocolate filling, though I just bought some of them, because I didn’t know how they would taste and once when I bought things like them in other place, they tasted like butter and not chocolate and they were really bad, I mean, I had to add plenty of cocoa powder just to make it taste like chocolate and I really had some time wasted on making it taste as I wanted it to taste, you know. So that, I just took some of those buttons and then when I tasted them, they tasted okay, so that it was not a bad thing that I bought them, if you ask me. Well then, it was time to go, because then I had this lecture which was starting soon and I didn’t want to be late, so that I went to metro station and went into the train. Luckily there were not many people in this wagon and I even got a sit there and it was pretty good, because I didn’t want anything to happen to my biscuit and , well, you know, some may have crashed it or something like that, you know, these things happen all the time, I guess, so I was really afraid, that something could happen to my biscuit, however, everything went just fine and it was only the bus that was left to be afraid of. Well, I waited for the bus for quite some time and finally it cameand I went there and there were not as many people as there used to be and that was good, too, of course, so that I stood there freely without any worries of my biscuit being crashed or damaged and then, when I went to this place, where I had a lecture, my brother was there with his car and I put my biscuit safely in his car and that was it, the biscuit was all safe and well.

So, then I had to return home and it was kind of hard to do that, too, I mean, I got nearby home by car, however, then I decided to have a walk as I wanted to buy some other things for my cake, which I didn’t really have at home, or, maybe I had some of them there, you know, so that I decided to have a look at some stores there, I mean, the supermarkets and pay visits to them. You know, it’s not that simple to walk in that places carrying that biscuit and a backpack and everything and buy some other things, too, so that it was pretty much hard to get home, however, finally I got there, of course, and then I just started preparing those stuff for the cake,because it was already an evening and kind of late and I had to prepare everything, so that I could do some other things, too, I mean, the most time would take the decorating and stuff like that, however, preparing the cream filling would need much time, too, as it needed to be cooled and everything, you know.

Preparing the cake

Well, as I’ve already mentioned, preparing the cake didn’t need to prepare the biscuit myself, as I had already bought it and I wouldn’t waste any time on that, you know. And I just had to prepare the cream filling and some other ingredients, which I would add to the cream filling inside the cake for it to get better in taste. I wanted my cake to have some fruit in it and first I thought that I would add some pineapples to it, however, I didn’t really know, whether it would taste good or not and then I decided to have some kiwi fruit in it and bought some kiwis for that, you know, so that I would have kiwis if I decided to have them in my cake. And I also had some bananas at home and perhaps I would add just banana slices to the cake, I had some time to decide that, so that I collected all those fruits and thought about that for some time.

Getting home, I had decided to start the preparation process of my cream filling right away, so that I poured 1 litre water in my electric kettle and boiled it, while I was preparing the sugar and flour mixture, as I had decided to prepare that water cream filling and not the milk one. So, let’s see the ingredients now.

Ingredients:

For the cream porridge:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Almost 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 small egg yolks
  • 1 package vanilla
  • 1 litre water

For the cream filling:

  • Cocoa powder
  • Cacao condensed milk 30 grams
  • 1 small banana
  • Roasted peanuts
  • Walnuts
  • 2 packages vanilla
  • Drops of vodka
  • 100 grams unsalted butter
  • Cacao milk drink
  • Coconut flakes

For the coffee syrup:

  • Instant coffee
  • 3 tbs white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water

Preparation process

So, as I’ve already mentioned , the preparation process started with the cream porridge preparation. I had that sugar, flour and vanilla mixed together in a bowl and when the water boiled, I poured some of it into the bowl whisking it , so that the mixture would mix with the water well,  and I also added two small egg yolks into the mixture and mixed them together, and then I had this large saucepan on a gas and poured the remaining boiling water into it and then I also added that mixture into it whisking so that there wouldn’t be any small balls inside the mixture or something like that and the porridge would be as a one piece, you know. It needed some whisking ,though, I mean, it really needed some of the whisking, because it still had these small balls inside it and I thought that I had done something wrong, however, it all dissolved after some time and everything was just great then and  I could just stir from time to time for the mixture to get as a porridge and for it not to get burned or something like that, you know. I thought that I would finish preparing thhe porridge quite soon, however, I was kind of wrong, because I used 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of flour instead of two in both of them and that’s why the porridge needed much time to get thicker and that I realized quite late and it was not a good idea to add some of those sugar and flour to the dish after that time. Well, I would wait a little longer for the porridge to get thick and it was a half an hour or so until it got ready and thicker and I was really happy about that, I must say. So, when it was all thick and ready, I turned the gas off and waited a little bit for it to get cooled down so that I would place it in the fridge and that way it would get cold faster.

In the meantime, I had these peanuts, which needed to be roasted. Well, I wanted to buy them already roasted and ready, however, there weren’t peanuts or anything from nuts roasted there, so that I bought the raw ones and I had to cook them myself. So, I took a frying pan and put those peanuts in it and had them on a medium gas occasionally stirring so that every one of them would get roasted. They had to be easily peeled or whatever and that would mean that they were roasted and ready. Well, there may be some of them a little burned, however, don’t be afraid, because they can’t actually be burned, if you are paying attention. And you shouldn’t leave them alone, because they are done in some minutes and if you leave them without any attention, they may easily get burned that way. And, well, to be honest, peeling them is a really horrible process and I just really hated it, I must say. I mean, there were so many of them and I had to peel each one of them, that it took a lot of time, if you want to know the truth. So that, if there’s a chance of buying roasted peanuts, you should definitely buy the roasted ones!

Then I had these slices of banana prepared, I mean, they didn’t really need to be prepared, as the banana only needed  to be peeled and sliced, you know. And I also took those walnuts out of the container and had them crashed into smaller pieces without any roasting.

Meanwhile, the cream porridge got cold and I took it out of the refrigerator. I had 100 grams of unsalted butter on a room temperature put into a mixing bowl of my standing mixer and started the mixer and mixed that butter for a couple of minutes, until it got whiter and fluffier. Then I had this porridge added to the butter little by little, I mean, I took one tablespoon of porridge and added it to the butter while the mixer mixing them and when they were pretty much mixed, I added another tablespoon and so on and  so forth, you know. After the last tablespoon, I waited for the mixer to mix them all well together and then I added two packages of vanilla and some vodka drops, so that it would have a better taste. And that was the vanilla cream filling and I took it out of that bowl and put it in another one, so that I would prepare some chocolate cream filling for the different type of cream filling, you know. I had decided to have three kinds of cream filling, so that I was preparing the other ones after the vanilla one. To be honest, I wanted to have four cream filling layers in my cake, however, then I thought that it would get the cake very soft and wouldn’t stand all that cream, however, I guess, that it would stand it and the next time I am going to prepare that kind of cake, I will do that in a different way.

Anyways, not it was time  for the second cream filling. I took some tablespoons of that vanilla cream filling and put it into the mixing bowl and added 30 grams of cacao condensed milk and some leftovers of cacao milk drink and mixed them well together with the mixer. And it tasted pretty good and I decided to leave it like that and took it out into another small bowl, too.

Then I had to prepare the third cream filling and I took some of that chocolate cream filling and some vanilla cream filling and mixed them with plenty of cocoa powder and that was the chocolate cream filling, I guess, rather than the previous one, because it really had this chocolate structure, you know.

Now that it was all done, I started preparing the coffee syrup for the biscuit. I took 1 cup of  boiling water and 3 tbs of sugar, however, you can add more or less sugar if you want and I mixed them on a medium gas into a small saucepan and had it boiling for a couple of minutes, until it got a little bit thicker and then I added some instant coffee and set it aside to get cold.

The cutting of that biscuit was pretty fun, because I couldn’t decide how many pieces I wanted to have, however, then I decided to cut it into four pieces and, hence, have three types of cream filling ready for it, you know. I cut it with knife and it  was kind of not as flat as expected, however, it was alright and I could continue my preparation, I mean, I could then add the syrup to the cake pieces so that they would get a coffee taste and they would become even softer, than they were. So, I sprinkled the syrup on those pieces and they got all moist and everything and then it was time to put that cream filling on it and assemble the cake.

You know, it’s really some fun assembling the cake and , I guess, many people like it, because you get a chance of doing something just the way you like and I was pretty much looking forward to that , if you want to know the truth, so that after preparing all that stuff, I just started assembling the cake and I got into it so much, that I didn’t even realize , that I wasted all my time on decorating it.

Well, first of all, I took that one piece of cake and put it on that cake thing and then I spread 3 or 4 tablespoons of vanilla cream filling on it. And then I put those roasted peanuts on it in every place and then  I took another piece of that cake and put it on it. Then came the second cream filling time. It was that one with the cacao condensed milk and stuff like that and I had walnuts placed on that one and put another layer of the cake. On that piece after that I spread the vanilla cream filling on it, too, and placed those banana slices on it and then I put the last layer of the cake on it. After that I decided to have that third chocolate cream filling spread on the cake and I think, it would have been better if I had spread some vanilla cream filling on it first and then the chocolate cream filling, because it was like a glaze after some time and it would have been like that glaze, you know. However, it was still good and I put some slices of banana on it in the middle. I spread the remaining vanilla cream filling on the sides of the cake and then spread that chocolate cream filling over it, so that the cake was all chocolaty and stuff from the outside. I also sprinkled some coconut flakes on the cake and put some peanuts on the sides so that it would become kind of beautiful.

Well, that was all my cake and it needed some time to get all that ingredients together and so that I had it put in the fridge and leave there for a night and then eat it the next day. And I must say, that it tasted pretty good and I was very satisfied with my cake, because I was afraid, that it wouldn’t taste as expected, of course, however, everything went just perfect and it all was worth it!
