Halloween Party Mix
You probably know that Halloween is a big deal here in the United States. And during one of many Halloween parties that I attended this year, I discovered my new favourite snack. You probably know the saying that simple things are often the best things, and it could not be more true for this snack. It is basically a mix of salty pretzels, covered with creamy peanut butter, candy corn, peanuts and M&M candies. And of course I had to ask for the recipe. This party mix is very easy to make, and if you make one just for yourself, it will last for approximately two weeks. Well, I usually eat it faster because it is just so good.
This is how the final result looks like.
Ingredients
The amount of ingredients varies, depending how many people you are making the mix for. The amount I used, makes one large bowl of the Halloween party mix.
- Two packs of mini salted pretzels
This is the brand I used. You can also use regular salted sticks.
- One big pack of candy corn
- Two packs of M&M candies. You can buy one regular and one peanut package.
- One cup of creamy peanut butter
- One cup of honey
- One teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2/3 cups of sugar
Optional: you can add a few Reese’s pieces to the mix if desired.
How to make the Halloween party mix?
In a large bowl, combine mini salted pretzels and candy corn. Do not mix in M&M candies yet, since they might melt during the process. Get a medium saucepan and put honey and sugar inside. Cook over medium heat and stir well so the sugar melts. When the mixture comes to a boil, stir for two minutes and then add peanut butter and vanilla extract. Stir for a few more minutes so all the ingredients are really mixed together well.
Pour the mixture over the pretzel and candy corn mix, and stir wellso the mix is evenly covered in the peanut butter sauce. When you are done, you can add M&M candies to the mixture and stir again. Let the mix cool down for a few more minutes, and then you can start eating.
Serving suggestion and storage
I know that all Erasmus students, current or former, love to party. If you are hosting a house party, the simplest and also the most effective way to serve the Halloween party mix is just putting it in a large bowl on the table with snacks, and do not forget to put smaller cups on the side, so people can just put the party mix in a cup and eat it while walking around.
Halloween party mix is very easy to store. As long as you keep it in a closed container or a zip lock bag, it will be good to eat for up to three weeks after making it.
