Easter eggs
The introduction
Hello everyone, I hope that you are all doing just fine!
In this article I want to tell you about the Easter eggs in Georgia and how to prepare them.
Well, as you know, they have those different coloured Easter eggs in other countries, mostly in western Europe and in the United States of America, however, we just have those red eggs in Georgia and it’s a tradition to paint them into red colour on the Friday until the Easter Sunday, because it’s called the Red Friday that day and that’s when the eggs are supposed to be coloured in red according to the tradition and people try to do that, however, there are some circumstances, when it’s not that possible to colour the eggs in red colour, so that they colour them on Saturday or even on Sunday. Now the red eggs are even sold in the supermarkets or bazaars and you can buy them if you don’t have time to colour them or if you don’t know how to colour them or something like that.
About Easter eggs
Well, Easter eggs are very important things on Easter and it’s like unimaginable to celebrate Easter without having some red Easter eggs on the table. It’s a tradition which shouldn’t be forgotten or not cared about, if you want to know the truth.
While they hide the Easter eggs in the yard and in the garden in other countries, it’s not like that in Georgia and when the eggs are coloured in red, they are usually put on the table, where they belong to and everyone can take them and crash them with each other and see whose egg gets broken.
There’s a tradition of colouring the eggs in Georgia. Usually one person prepares the colouring in the neighbourhood and then all the neighbours borrow this colouring from them and it goes from one house to another and that’s how the Easter eggs get coloured in red.
There’s a plant named “Endro” in Georgian, which is red in colour and when you beat and squash it, it’s pretty red and then you can pour some water on them and cook them, so that the water will get very dark red in the saucepan. After that, you can put the eggs into the saucepan and cook them for more than 10 minutes on a low heat until they get red in colour.
