About condensed milk
The introduction
Hello everyone, I hope that you are all doing fine!
Now I want to tell you about these different types of condensed milk and why I love them so much and how to actually use them in different things, such as cream fillings or just like that, so that I hope that it all will be interesting for you, besides, they are pretty easy to use and won’t consume much of your time and you can just buy them and eat them and they are really nourishing, if you want to know the truth.
Well, to tell you the truth, my whole childhood I used to eat these condensed milks, which were in cans and they were pretty easy to open, well, not for me, of course, because I was really little and I couldn’t possibly open those cans, however, my mother or father used to open them for me and I would eat as much as I wanted. To be honest, I could eat the whole can if I wanted to, I don’t know how, because it was really, really sweet and usually if you eat half of it or so, you don’t really want it anymore, at least, at that time. Maybe you can have a small break and then continue eating it, but it’s still surprising, how someone can eat the whole can at once.
So, that time I just knew about this plain condensed milk, which was pretty good, I can say, and it was all over the places, I mean, it was sold in the markets and it was pretty popular, if you want to know the truth, so that everyone was buying it and everyone was eating it or using it in baking and stuff like that, you know, in making cakes and tarts and everything.
Well, as I know, there are three types of that condensed milk in cans sold today in our supermarkets. They are: plain condensed milk, boiled condensed milk and condensed milk with cacao.You know, my sister just loves that cacao condensed milk and though I agree with her, that the cacao condensed milk is pretty delicious, I just love eating this boiled condensed milk, because it’s really great and delicious and there’s something in it that I can’t describe, that makes me want to eat it really bad.
Condensed milk in cooking
First of all, you should know, that the condensed milk is used in many things, however, mostly they use condensed milk in cream fillings in Georgia, I mean, it’s milk, right?! So that they prepare milk cream fillings, which are very popular, and if they don’t have enough time for preparing that boiled milk and stuff like that, they just buy this condensed milk and use it as an already prepared milk and they just use some unsalted butter or margarine to add it to the condensed milk and the cream filling is ready! However, this condensed milk is very sweet, I mean, it’s really sweet for me. Maybe it’s not that sweet for someone else, but it’s not that good for me, so that I prefer that boiled milk stuff, because you can decide how much sugar you want to use there and how much sugar you want that milk stuff to have, so that it won’t be very sweet for you, and, besides, sugar is bad for our body, as you know, so that less sugar means more healthy, I guess. Well, this boiled milk is prepared that way _ you mix some flour and sugar together and when the milk boils, you just add that mixture to it while whisking and then you stir occasionally and the milk is in a saucepan on a low heat and you just wait for this mixture to get thicker, so that it looks like porridge and then you just turn the gas off and let it cool until you mix it with some butter. Well, to be honest, I really like that thing, because it’s very delicious and, besides, you can eat it just like that. You know, my aunt prepares really delicious cream fillings and she’s like a master in that, so that if someone wants to have a cake, they can just ask and she can prepare really amazing ones, however, she’s not a chef or something. She really likes this thick cream fillings and she loves them with lots of cocoa powder, too, with that great chocolate tasteand, well, I really love that chocolate taste, too, comparing to my grandmother, who just loves that white cream filling and always gets kind of disappointed, when my aunt prefers this cocoa cream filling over the white vanilla cream filling. However, everyone loves my aunt’s cakes and so does my grandmother, of course, and it’s really irresistible not to eat a slice of that cake that my aunt has prepared!
So, what you need for this condensed milk cream filling is some unsalted butter and a can of condensed milk or however you like it, I mean, there are cans of condensed milk, which are 180 or 200 grams, I guess. There are also condensed milk in small 0.5 Litre bottles and they are also sold in large cans or 500 grams, or so, and they are also sold in packages like ketchup or mayonnaise and they are 180 grams, I guess. Well, if you buy a small can of condensed milk it will cost you from 1.50 Laris up to 3 Laris, it all depends on which brand the condensed milk is. However, I guess, buying those bottled stuff is more comfortable and it’s better to have them, because, you can use some of them and then store them in the fridge or something. But if you are sure that you just need that one can of condensed milk and not more or less, you can buy it and use it the whole one and just throw the can into the trash. However, we mostly buy some more, if we buy them, because, then I want to eat it besides using it in the cream filling and that’s why we need more than the needed amount of condensed milk.
Well, I loved this condensed milk in my childhood very much and I used to eat it a lot, as I’ve already mentioned, and so does my uncle, I mean, he really loves that condensed milk and even now, he can eat it a lot. And I remember, he used to bring those condensed milk cans to us and we would eat them together. That was pretty cool.
So, you can take 50 grams of unsalted butter and a can of condensed milk and mix them together. First of all , you should know, that the butter should be on a room temperature and at first, you should whisk it until it gets all white and fluffy and it may take a couple of minutes if you are doing that with your mixer. After that you can add the condensed milk little by little with the mixer turned on and whisking. The condensed milk should be on a room temperature, too, I mean, both of them should be on the same temperature so that everything will go well. Otherwise, the butter will get those bubbled shapesor something like that and the mixture won’t be as good as it should have been had you those both products at the same temperature. That thing often happened to me when I tried to prepare that condensed milk cream filling, and then after some time when I told that to my aunt, she told me that trick or whatever you call it, so that after that, when I prepared that thing, it usually occurred that the cream filling came out good and it didn’t have those bubbles in it and the taste was just great, too.
Boiled condensed milk
Well, now about this boiled condensed milk, which I love so much. I think, I didn’t love it in my childhood that much. I loved that plain condensed milk then, I guess. So, this boiled condensed milk is dark brown in colour and is less liquidy than the plain condensed milk. It’s also sold into cans and there are small and large cans and the large one costs up to 5 Laris, if I remember it correctly, so that, it’s usual that I buy those large cans, because I use more than half of it in cake cream filling and decorating it and the rest of it is for me and I can eat it with pleasure, if you want to know the truth. Well, this one is pretty sweet, too, however, it’s kind of different from the plain condensed milk and it doesn’t really need much butter, I guess. Well, it all depends on a person, if you ask me, because my sister likes having more butter to it, than me. To be honest, she doesn’t like that boiled condensed milk at all,but still… there’s this thing _ we both like this Snickers cake, which has this boiled condensed milk cream filling in it and we even prepared that cake several times and it was just perfect, if you want to know the truth. It was so good, that my sister ate it with pleasure and haven’t told anything about not liking the cream filling and that was just amazing, if you want to know the truth. Well, once we tried preparing the biscuits ourselves, however, they didn’t really come out as we wanted. I mean , they were great and stuff, but they were not perfect.
The perfect ones, though , are sold in this Pasazhi shopping center, where my sister knows where to buy some good things and she bought those snickers biscuits there and they were just perfect. We used something about 300 grams of this boiled condensed milk and 100 grams or less unsalted butter, because I wanted the cream filling to have this boiled condensed milk taste more than usually, so that we had less butter and more boiled condensed milk in the cream filling. Well, people said, that it was kind of too sweet, however, I didn’t really think so. To be honest, when it’s so sweet, people usually don’t eat much, so that I had more left and I was like “good, more for me!”
Condensed milk with cocoa
So, about the third condensed milk! It’s a plain condensed milk with cocoa powder, you may think, however, it’s not quite like that, because it has something in it that you may not realize. Well, it’s kind of thicker than the plain condensed milk and it has this amazing taste of chocolate, that is irresistible. I mean, if you thought, that you might buy this plain condensed milk and add some cocoa powder to it and that will be it, you are really wrong and you will be disappointed when you added the cocoa powder to that plain condensed milk and didn’t find it the same as the cocoa condensed milk. Well, it’s really delicious and those people will especially love that thing, who just love the chocolate taste, if you want to know the truth. I guess, preparing some cream filling from it would be a great idea, too, and I was going to do that, however, I didn’t really have time for that these days. And meanwhile, I ate it little by little and it’s now only half of it left, however, there’s still some chance of preparing the cream filling, you know. Or else, I can buy another can of it, of course. However, those cocoa condensed milk cans are not sold everywhere, I mean, they used to have them in Goodwill, though I couldn’t find them there the other day and the one before that and the one before that, too, and then suddenly I found it in Carrefour supermarket in East Point and there’s where we bought it and it cost something like up to 3 Laris, I guess. So that it’s like twice as much as the plain condensed milk.
Anyways, these condensed milks are pretty much recommended by me, so that you should really try them out if you haven’t already. Besides, it’s like they don’t need to be in a fridge or something like thatand they don’t get bitter that easily, so that you can have them anywhere you want. You can even take them on a camping or something like that and eat them from time to time.
