Adelaide has many bars and clubs to offer for an exciting nigh out. However, the largest venues mainly reserve their DJ tunes to the latest and most popular world hits. So if you're looking for diversity, it may not be too easy. Nevertheless, you don’t need the biggest venues to have the most fun. This one's about the discovery of a new dance venue I discovered with a mate and one I will be going to more often. Firstly, a bit of background.
An exchange mate of mine was having his twenty-first birthday. We decided to do a massive pre-drinking session in one of the large student accommodations: the Urbanest. In this establishment you are allowed access to a large public to drink or do whatever until 11 PM. Starting at that point you’ll be evacuated from the premises. So that's what we decided to do. We gave the whole exchange group in Adelaide University an open invitation to join us for pre-drinks and to whichever bar we would like to end up in.

We enjoyed the company, laughed and drank until it was action time. It was nearing 11PM and the security guard was preparing to kick us out. So we decided to leave and head all the way to Rundle Mall street, which is a twenty minute walk away. This area was one of the largest pub areas in Adelaide.
My birthday mate decided that we’ll go to a place called the Elephant pub. This place is a nice two level British bar with a dance area and a DJ/Band that usually perform on most weekend nights. The place also offers cheaper drinks than most venues. Thats perfect to continue or begin a night. As we’re heading in that direction, one of my close mates pulls me away from the group.

This mate of mine is a German exchange student with a love for electronic music. She would fondly tell me stories of Berlin nightlife. All the different club options at the tip of your finger.
She told me about this event that was going on, an electro-music themed night at a place called the Producers bar just a stone's throw away from the Elephant pub.
I know what you must be thinking. Mate, this is your friend’s twenty first! How could you just decide to leave on such short notice. My argument is twofold. It doesn’t mean its any good, but its all I’ve got. Firstly, I enjoy dancing to electro-music as much as any other music, The only issue is that this genre of music does not have much of a presence in Adelaide. This event had been pretty unique and I was very keen to check it out. The second part of my argument is that I was a bit not too sober. Which made my decisions less considerate of other factors. As far as I was concerned that night, my mind was only on the music.
Regardless, she and I made our way to the Producers bar. From the outside it looks like any regular pub. Although once inside, it was a different world. The inside was dark with some flashing lights going on around the corner. They had spiderwebs and other Halloween decorations in anticipation for the coming Halloween.

There were a few people here and there. We kept walking towards the sound of the music. We turn a corner and the dancefloor lit up before us. The place was a medium sized room with flashing lights of all colors. The music was playing at full volume. It all felt like a trance. There weren’t that many people at the time and we were a bit hesitant. We decided to just throw our jackets in a corner and start dancing. Like most events, they tend to start later. We were dancing for about thirty minutes before the place started to get properly full.
At one point I had to go to the toilet, so I went to a room in the opposite direction of where we came from. The place opened up to a massive area with a large DJ set and all. This place would be perfect to fit a couple of hundred people. At that point I learnt about the potential this place has for inviting friends.

The DJs that night were good. We had three different ones going and they flowed into each other really well. The drinks here were also reasonably priced. I decided to chit chat with the bartender to ask if this place is electro-music central. He replied negatively. The Producers Bar is special for the fact that it plays music of all types. That was an exciting thought. Who knows what else this place would have to offer.
In the end, we stuck around till about two am. The place was still going hard by the time we left. I was glad my mate had the good judgement to pick this place. We decided to simply get back to our own places. The party was still going strong at the Elephant pub, but the music had been so good at the Producers Bar that we were basically dancing all night and were too exhausted to even think about socialising with mates.
I highly recommend you check out this place if you’re ever in Adelaide. It isn’t the most widely advertised place, although you can look them up on facebook and learn all about their great offers and dance nights.
Enjoy your night and drink responsibly!
