Experience in Vigo, Spain, by Natalia

What's it like to live in Vigo? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a city that has everything, I would definitely recommend it! It's a charming city where you can enjoy both the beaches and its countless hillsides, and it also has an old town and numerous shopping centres.

What is the student lifestyle like in Vigo?

I think there is quite a strong university lifestyle, although not as much as other cities.

How much does it cost to live in Vigo?

Life in Vigo is not very expensive, I think that with under 1, 000 euros you will be able to live comfortably sharing a flat with other students.

Was it difficult to find your accommodation in Vigo? Can you give any advice?

I am from Vigo so I lived in my parents' house, but I don't think it's very difficult as there are organisations that can help such as ESN.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is the best, the best fish and seafood in the world! Without a doubt there are great seafood paellas, tortillas and calamari as well.

What places would you recommend visiting in Vigo?

I would recommend Castrelos Park, the Castro fortress, the old town, the beach zone and I would suggest going as far as Playa America (Nigrán) and all of that area.

Is it good to eat out in Vigo? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Papa's, Cambalache, Mesón Orensano (a classic spot to have some beers).

Is the nightlife good? Where would you recommend?

I would recommend the nightlife in Churucca because it's a little bit more alternative and there are local places such as Mogambo, La Iguana Club, Loft, Bamboo... there are loads...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Vigo in the future?

Enjoy yourself to the fullest because it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to get to know the people and culture from another country, without a doubt the best 12 months of your life will be your year with Erasmus.
