What is it like to live in Salzburg? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I grew up in Salzburg and have lived here for 20 years. It's a beautyful city to live in. It is a rural and culturally rich city at the same time with lots of lakes and mountains very close to it.

What is the student lifestyle like in Salzburg?

The student lifestyle in Salzburg is of course not comparable to the one in Vienna. Salzburg does not have as many different, alternative pubs, clubs or bars, but on the other hand there are lots of possibilities regarding outdoor sports and nature.

How much does it cost to live in Salzburg?

Salzburg has a high "life quality standard", but it's not the cheapest place to live in. Especially prices for accommodation have gone heavily up over the last few years.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Salzburg? Is there any advice you can give?

Apart from the student apartments where most Erasmus students live in there are also websites of the ÖH to find shared flats with other students.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

To be honest I don't really know a lot about Austrian cuisine. I prefer less hearty food.

What places would you recommend visiting in Salzburg?

The lakes and the mountains surrounding salzburg. There are also two beautiful mountains right in the city. Perfect for chilling in summer or walking in autumn!

Is it good to eat out in Salzburg? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are some student friendly restaurants.

For example L'Osteria - (share your pizza! )

Uncle Van - very favorable prices, pick your own ingredients!

Is the nightlife good in Salzburg? Where is good to go?

As a grown up I don't really like Rudolfskai, but if your looking for cheap alcohol it's your place to be. I rather prefer Irish pubs like O'Malleys, Republic Café or City Beats.

What advice would you give future students heading to Salzburg?

Don't let the hard seeming shell of salzburgs inhabitants unsettle you, most of us have a soft core inside!
