Erasmus Experience in Salzburg, Austria by Dovilė
Why did you choose to go to Salzburg, Austria?
To be honest,it was my home university's suggestion. Only here I can find my courses in English
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Scholarship is for one semester. For me it's 470 euros per month. But for sure it's not enough. Firstly, you get 80% of your scholarship in the beggining of your mobility. I spend it on room deposit, rent, buying stuff I needed for a living. So, before here, check your financial opportunities and make sure you will have savings and extra money.
What is the student lifestyle like in Salzburg?
For me it's amazing. Everyone so friendly, helpful. You meet not only very nice Erasmus students, but locals as well. Great parties, most of the places have prices for students. For sure, this is an opportunity you don't want to miss. Just to let you know, don't think it's a big city with a lot of activities. It's small, but beautiful place to spend your mobility.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Salzburg to other students?
Without a doubt! Historical city, nice people, helpful staff at university and wide range if english studies.
What is the food like?
It deppends what you eat. I am a little bit "choosy", but still if you know how to cook, you will survive. Food in restaurants, cafes of course is more expensive.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Salzburg?
I was very lucky and found an amazing room. It's only 300 per month, I don't think you can find something cheaper. It only costed me time to look for it.
How much does it cost to live in Salzburg?
Rent 300-450,food (depends what you eat) - I spend aprox. 20 euros per week.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I learned a little bit german in school,so I am not that green with it and can understand some things. There are german courses at our university for the begginers and more advance students. (of course, you need to pay for them)
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Salzburg from your city?
You can choose to go to Munich or Vienna. I think Munich is better, because it's a little cheaprr and closer to Salzburg, so the train or bus will be cheaper as well. I personally wanted to land in Salzburg (because of my "girly suitcases"). So I had connecting flight to Salzburg's airport (around 130euros)
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Salzburg?
If you will live in a dorm, trust to me, you will not look for a party for a long time. But there are some good clubs. Some of them have free entry, some are from 5 euros
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Salzburg?
I prefer cooking at home. But if you like mexican food - Escobar.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Salzburg in the future?
Make sure to save some money before coming, start to look for an apartament as soon as possible, because some people got theit dorms only in the end of first month of the semester.
