The turquoise lagoon in the jungle
Hello everyone!
I hope that you are all well.
Today I want to tell you about a spectacular place that I discovered last year when I was visiting the "la Cueva de la Lechuzas" - "The Cave of Owls" - in the Tingo María National Park in the Central Jungle of Peru.
Here I am going to show you a photo so that you can see the natural beauty of this place for yourself! It seems as if it is an outside swimming pool but it's not... the colour is totally natural!
I remember this day perfectly, I was so amazed to have found such a beautifully coloured pool in the middle of the road and only five minutes away from the entrance to the Tingo María National Park!
After visiting the cave, we went to eat an amazing "tacacho con cesina" - roasted banana dish served with bits of pork - with our guide and after that we had to wait another 20 minutes to continue with our route. As it was a sunny day, the guide told us that if we wanted to, we could spend a moment at this pool as it is medicinal, and it was! It was the perfect place to relax and come into contact with all the nature that was surrounding us - the green mountains on every side and the road in front of us where there was nobody.
This place is a tiny lagoon that as of this moment doesn't have a name, the cost of entry is symbolic as it only cost me 2 soles and there was no one else there. It was my friend, the guide and I. In the entrance to this place we saw a sign saying that the curative properties of the lagoon come from natural sulphur that flows into the river.
I'm telling you, these waters are known for beautifying the skin, as well as curing illnesses... It is a muscle relaxer and gives oxygen to your cells - a real natural spa! Here I spent almost two hours swimming in this lagoon and washing my face in the sulphurous water which is what you do for the curative properties I was telling you about.
Around this dream-like place, they had placed stones and chairs to sit in and a small stop to eat at, but as I went during low-season (March) it wasn't functioning. I felt so privileged to be here by the lagoon surrounded by water with a colour I had never seen before in my life.
What I also have to tell you about is that after having swam in the lagoon like a mad woman, I had a strong smell lingering on my body from the minerals in the natural pool, but I didn't care, I still enjoyed it so much and after a few showers rinsing yourself off you can return once again to this beautiful place.
I encourage you to go to the Central Jungle of Peru so that you, too, can appreciate this marvellous natural place. To get here, you only need to get a bus from Lima by the Javier avenue bus stop and 12 hours later you will be arriving at the Tingo María National Park.
I hope that you have enjoyed this short explanation, I will see you in my next adventure!
Until next time!
