What is it like to live in Pecs? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Pécs, European Capital of Culture in 2010 and the fifth largest city in Hungary with a population of about 180,000 is a real Mediterranean beauty. It is situated in South Transdanubia, close to the borders with Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and Austria. The city at the foothills of the Mecsek Mountains has a mild, sub-Mediterranean climate. In Pécs there are good restaurants&cafes, nice parks, art galleries, cinemas, museums and cultural events as well. It's a likeable and city!
What is the student lifestyle like in Pecs?
The University of Pécs offers other kind of faculties for the foreign students. You can find English or German programm with very good professors there are well equipped university buildings and students dormitories. The atmosphere of the city is amazing due the number of students. If you do medical, business, engineering or law studies,the University of Pécs is the perfect choice for you. For the foreign students the Medical School is the most popular. Every year there is a special night called International Evening organised by the University. Students from different countries can show their culture and gastronomy and they usually make funny performances.

Hungarian gastronomy is quite good. You can find special wines in Villány and Szekszárd as well.
What places would you recommend visiting in Pecs?
Zsolnay Cultural Quarter; Basilica; Mosque; Synagogue; TV tower; National Theatre of Pécs; Victor Vasarely Museum; Early Christian Underground cemetery included in the UNESCO World Heritage list; Bishop's cave with good wines; Tettye Hill; market on every Sunday where you can buy old and rare things:)
What advice would you give future students heading to Pecs?
Pécs is a nice city with great cultural surrounding. Leave your prejudice at home and come here with an open mind and a will to enjoy life. If you are ready for the experience, the city will give you everything you can imagine.
