What is it like to live in Pécs? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I like the mediterran atmosphere of the city. The city center is very sparkling. There is always a lot of people. There are many galleries, caffees, pubs, mini shops and street restaurants. The only period of time the city looks empty is in summer, in August.

What is the student lifestyle like in Pécs?

The University of Pécs (PTE) have a lot faculties, so there are a lot of students here. That's the reason why there are many opportunities to meet the needs of students.

How much does it cost to live in Pécs?

Obviously it depends on a lot of things. The most complicated question the housing. The public transport (bus) in my opinion is a little bit expensive too. I'd recommend using a bike for transport, if you can (but keep in mind that there are some rising hills). But the other things are okay.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Pécs? Is there any advice you can give?

Year by year, it becomes more expensive, but if you're lucky you can find an appropriate flat or room to rent. I know it's hard but it's like this almost but everywhere...

You can find adverstisements on a couple of Facebook groups: Pécs albérlet, Szoba, Lakótárs.

What places would you recommend visiting in Pécs?

I'd recommend visiting:

  • Tettye
  • City center
  • Zsolnay Cultural Quarter
  • Pubs

Is it good to eat out in Pécs? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I don't have too much time to eat out during the day so I usually order some food. It works well in Pécs in my opinion. Sometimes I go to "Room Bistro", it's a restaurant near the Zsolnay Quarter (and Faculty of Fine Arts). It has a medium price range and some daily menus (A, B, C and other). There are cheap vegetarian menus at "Szabadkikötő Pub" (at Búza Tér).

Is the nightlife good in Pécs? Where is good to go?

Yes, it's quite good! There are a lot of places where the closing time is midnight, or eleven o clock, like: Vödör, Csinos, Zsanér, Szabadkikötő (my favourite), Bazár, Made in Pécs...

The people who wants to continue the party (around the city center) go to the Nappali Pub (in Király street).

What advice would you give future students heading to Pécs?

Find your way in Pécs. Have a good luck!
