I am from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and living in the Netherlands for the year as an au pair. This year I am trying to travel as much as I can and it has been amazing to see this part of the world.
Recently I paid a visit to Palma de Mallorca and already fell in love with the place when I flew over the stunning islands. I just love Spain, the culture, the people, the food, and I cannot wait to go back.
On my first day I wanted to see what the Cathedral is all about. It was a 20 minute walk from where I stayed, and on the way there are all kinds of shops and restaurants to feast your eyes on - needless to say, it is difficult to go all the way without stopping for a refreshing drink or enjoy some traditional Spanish cuisine! I did give in to this after my walk up the Cathedral steps when I enjoyed 1. 5 litre of delicious Sangria at a cafe which overlooked the Cathedral. I think I sat there for about two hours and stared at the beauty in front of me.
The moment I saw the Cathedral I thought I was going to faint. It is just too beautiful to put into words. To think that very long ago people built this and what we see now is what it has always been. You can walk all the way up the steps and see the beautiful Royal Palace. The view that goes with it is just the cherry on the cake.
There is also a museum you can visit, as well as people selling crafts and painting caricatures along the way.
I would recommend anyone that is visiting this Spanish island to go and see the Cathedral. Your mind will be blown. Definitely go for a refreshing drink afterwards, as the walk can be quite tiring on a hot day in Spain! Sangria comes highly recommended, as well as a Shandy which you can get for very cheap at a bar near the centrum.
