Claudia's Erasmus Experience in Padua, Italy
Why did you choose to go to Padua, Italy?
Padua wasn't my first choice of all the others I had in mind for an Erasmus destination. Nevertheless, I put it on my list because people had told me very good things about it. And to this day, since I came here, I haven't repented coming here at all.
How long does your scholarship last? How much money will you receive in assistance?
My scholarship lasts one entire year, and the EU gives 300 euros per month to students who come to Italy.
How is the student environment in Padua?
The environment in Padua is totally a college town. We are around more than 200 Erasmus students, and that's just the Spanish ones. And Erasmus overall wouldn't know what to say.
There are always people having drinks in the bars.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Padua to other students?
Absolutely. Even though I've only been here 4 months and I still have the rest of the year to go, I am very happy with the city.
I study Law, and in all honesty the Erasmus coordinator here is amazing and always ready to help.
How is the food of the country?
In Padua, you can go out to eat very cheaply, all the typical places for pizza, pasta, etc.
Was it difficult for you to find housing in Padua?
Not at all. There is an agency called Sassa that's connected to the university, and it's in charge of helping find student housing.
THere are about 10 residencies, and if you hurry they will help you secure a place. I recomend a residency 100% because you will meet so many people.
How much does it cost to live in Padua?
Only the housing costs around 300 euros per month.
How is the language? Did you go to any course in the university?
The University of Padua offers free courses in Italian for the students, and it helped a good deal. If you speak with people and study a little bit, for Spanish speakers it's no problem.
Which is the most affordable way of arriving in Padua from your city?
Airplane. I fly Madrid - Verona, because the Verona airport tends to be more affordable.
What sites would you recommend for going out to party in Padua?
Factory is the Erasmus club, which has a great atmosphere on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
Normally young people hang out in the Piazza dei Signori, and afterwards they go to the Factory.
There is another smaller nightclub called FishMarket, and another in the city center called Q Bar.
But without I doubt I recommend going to all the parties of ESN (Erasmus Student Network) that you can.
And eating in Padua? Can you tell us your favorite places?
One of the best pizzerias in Padua is called Rosso Pomodoro.
And how do you tour the city?
Padua is a city that you can tour on foot or bicycle.
- Prato della Valle
- La Basilica di Sant'Antonio
- Piazza delle Erbe
- Piazza della Frutta
- Piazza dei Signori...
