The best years of Luca's life in Padova.
How does life in Padua seem to you? Would you recommend it? Such as?
Padua is a student-friendly city. It is neither too large nor too small. There are many clubs and bars and almost every day you can find some party or event in the various parks or squares of the city. So, of course, I would recommend it! Living costs are not even very high especially for students who can take advantage of the many discounts so it is truly a good city to study in. Furthermore, it is also very convenient in terms of transport because you can go anywhere through the train station. For example, you can get to Venice in just 25 minutes.
What is the student atmosphere like in Padua?
The environment is great because it is heterogeneous, that is, there are a lot of people of different nationalities and cultures and given that it is not a big city, it is very easy to meet new people every day. There are many parties, cultural events, exhibitions, and at least 3 or 4 clubs and bars always open.
How much does it cost to live in Padua?
Well, it depends, my experience has always been in shared apartments so I don't know the prices of the residences, but generally, the prices vary from 180/250 € for double rooms to 250/350 € for single rooms. Paduan nightlife doesn't cost much because many clubs have 3 for 2 evenings or there are a lot of discounts for both Erasmus students as well as the locals. It is also well-stocked with supermarkets and canteens. I lived with € 500 per month including food, accommodation, and entertainment. Obviously, all of this depends on your spending habits.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Padua? Can you give any advice?
No, it is very easy to search in the various Facebook pages such as "offering accommodation in Padua" or pages such as immediately.it, bakeka. Padua is full of shared apartments so it's just a matter of getting around and choosing where to live.
What is the local food like? What are your favorite dishes?
The local food is varied because there are many ethnic places so you can eat everything from Chinese to Lebanese to Indian etc. Personally, my favorite dishes are pizza and salami platters in the various taverns scattered around the center, perhaps accompanied by a nice glass of wine.
In your opinion, what are the best places to visit in Padua?
The botanical garden, Basilica del Santo, Prato della Valle, Scrovegni Chapel, Palazzo della Ragione, Palazzo Bo, San Gaetano center.
And to eat in Padua? Can you tell us about your favorite places?
Definitely L'Alimentari Sumiti, the legendary local food located in Via Belzioni which offers excellent sandwiches for € 2. The burgers at Fiore bar and the bruschettas from Gufo cellar.
Then there is the panzerottaro in Via Dante, the various ice cream parlors in Padua such as Grom, ciokkolatte and La Romana (highly recommended).
The pastries of the Racca pastry shop behind Piazza Cavour.
I recommend trying Caffè Pedrocchi at least once.
What places would you recommend for going out in Padua?
Piazza dei Signori, Gufo cellar, ombra della piazza, chiosco, Navigli, fishmarket, factory, Caffè Madrid, Yarda bar, Marlè bar, and Zanellato bar.
Any advice you would like to give to future visitors to Padua?
It is fundamental to drink a spritz in Piazza dei Signori under the clock tower. For the rest, enjoy your experience and if you pass by Sumiti or the Fiore bar, say hello!
