Food with a twist
Cowfish restaurant at the Universal Studios Orlando Riverwalk
If you take a look at the amount of my posts that describe various restaurants, you can probably guess that I love food. And I love trying out new restaurants. When I was in Orlando for my New Year’s vacation, one of my friends found a promising restaurant, called Cowfish, which is situated on the second floor of the complex on the Universal Studios Orlando Riverwalk.
Can you please just admire this awesome decoration for a second! Yes, it is colourful, but it is not overdone.
I am by no means an expert in rating restaurants, but I have to say that Cowfish is one of the most innovative restaurants I have ever been to. In the following post, you can read all about what made my experience at Cowfish so special.
Even the entrance into Cowfish is appealing. How did they know that my favourite colour is blue?!
What food should you order at Cowfish?
A small part of the Cowfish's menu.
First of all, the appetizers. I admit it, I rarely eat appetizers, because I prefer to focus on the main course and a big dessert at the end. But the server at Cowfish strongly recommended to try their fried calamari appetizer, because, like he said, they are out of this world.
I mean, I love calamari, and I was quite hungry, so I decided to give it a try. And as soon as I took the first bite, I realized I almost make the biggest mistake in my whole life by almost not ordering these fried calamari. They are beer battered, and they will melt in your mouth. Enough said.
The veggie burger at Cowfish should immediately make it to your list of must try foods. I have always thought veggie burgers are gross. Well, probably because I was buying frozen veggie burger patties at a local supermarket when I was in college and I did not bother making my own food after a night out partying.
But veggie burger at Cowfish was out of this world. First of all, it is enormous - I was barely able to bite it. Secondly, it is super flavourful, which I cannot say for the supermarket veggie burgers. And last but not least, it has some unusual toppings on it. Have you ever tried a veggie burger with avocados, kale, spinach, onions and soy sprouts? Well, now you can - head to Cowfish.
This was the biggest veggie burger I ever ate. And it comes with a side of fries!
Have you ever dreamed of eating burger and sushi together? Well, apparently you are not the only one, because Cowfish offers a special creation on their menu, called burgushi - a burger sushi. One of my friends ordered it, and she let me try it, and it was pretty mind blowing. This dish is basically a sushi roll in between two hamburger buns. Sushi and bread? Apparently not a bad idea!
And probably a creation that is even funkier than the burgushi - a burger, called ‘Cowfish has left the building’. A burger with peanut butter, bacon and fried bananas? My best friend ordered this (Marta, you still have my respect!) and managed to finish almost half of it before admitting it is too gross to continue eating. This burger sounds like a creation, coming directly from a dream of a pregnant woman’s unusual cravings.
Drinks at Cowfish
Cowfish offers an impressive selection of draft beers, all of which will cost you less than ten dollars. Unfortunately, they did not let us sample the beers beforehand, like some of the restaurants do, but I was pretty happy about my selection. The server explained each beer flavour in such details that I felt like sampling would be unnecessary anyways.
And the unusual creations at Cowfish do not end at food. They also offer some cool milkshakes, and some of them are spiked (with added alcohol, and therefore obviously not suitable for kids under 21). I tried the Island Breeze, which cost me twelve dollars. Yes, this might seem like an awful lot of money for a milkshake, but let me tell you that this is a 500 ml monster, and it has enough alcohol in it to make you sleepy. Or drunk.
How expensive is it?
All the main courses at Cowfish cost between ten and twenty dollars, which is a bargain, considering the amount of food that you get, and the innovative creations that they offer. Some of the appetizers cost less than ten dollars.
A few words for the end…
Would you like to try some innovative dishes, served by extremely friendly staff, while admiring the view of the Universal studios Orlando park in the background, without having to spend a ridiculous amount of money? Oh, and did I mention the awesome and colourful wall decor? Well, if your answer is yes, I would strongly suggest you to give the Cowfish restaurant a try. You will not regret it!
Colourful walls are a trademark of the Cowfish restaurant.
