Nápoles, Italy

This is one of the ancient and historic city, located at the southern part of Italy. Concerning the ancient history of the city, the historic city centre of the Naples, which is the biggest historical city in Europe, was declared as a UNESCO world heritage Site.

The Bay of Naples and the nearest Vesuvius mountains, which is a still active volcano, add an additional beauty to the city. Along with that, the old Roman Town Call Pompeii, which was destroyed by the Vesuvius volcano, remains near to Naples. During you visit to Naples, I recommend you visiting Pompeii since it is one of the famous tourist attraction around the city of Naples.

Besides that, Naples is enriched with ancient Roman architecture and the art. Due to the fact, travellers can see the beautiful frescoes, which are dated back to several centuries, in cathedral of Naples, which is the Duomo di San Gennaro. Along with them, the lavish Royal Palace and Castel Nuovo provides the evidence for the great architecture in the 13th-century. The ruins and the creations in the historic city centre of Naples emphasis the influence during the Renaissance and Enlightenment era.

I would like to recommend, Palace of Caserta, Herculaneum and Pompeii which are famous, cultural and historical sites to visit. Besides that, when we talk about Naples the most unforgettable thing is Pizza in Naples since the origin of pizza belong to this city. So, do not forget to enjoy Napolitano pizza during your stay in Naples.

My Experience

I spent two weeks in the Naples city. Since I have my relatives there, I could have the accommodation in the apartment of my relatives. Due to the fact we could enjoy lot more things during my journey.

Besides visiting the churches, castles etc. we went to flea markets, which are famous among local and tourists. It was a wonderful place for us on Sunday morning for having a good time while doing shopping and enjoying the sea foods. The prices of the goods are cheap with comparison to the other cities in Italy. I must say, even if the quality of the cloths and other items in these markets are not high but, they are worth to buy for that price.

Besides these markets, we went to Porta Nolana fish market located at the end of Corse Garibaldi heading to the sea area early in the morning around 8. 30a. m. to buy prawns which were so cheap and fresh. We could enjoy a lot of sea foodsand fish during our stay. If you stay in your own apartment, then you can cook all these sea foods by your own as you wish. That was one of the favourite part of my journey.

Exclusive of Pizza, Napoli is well known for coffee. You can see best coffee shops in city as Mexico and Cafe Gambrinus, which is a historic café shop. The best coffee bar in the city. According to the tourist recommendation, I went to these cafe shops and I could taste good coffee there.

Then, I could taste fresh mozzarella in Naples. They were very tasty. When it is eaten without passing days, the taste is good and something like milk comes out, when you eat them. When the days pass the taste will be faded and the milk flavour will be vanished. So, eat them when they are fresh and new.

Then, the other unforgettable thing is Napolitano sweets, which are very famous and tasty. When you go there, do not forget to enjoy them and pastries with a good coffee.

Each night in Naples was very entertaining. Neapolitan night life is always young and normally, it starts around 10. 00 p. m. We had nice nights in Piazza Bellini which is famous among young people to hang out with each other and find new friends. Most of the time young girls and boys go here and there by motorcycle (Vespa) even without wearing helmets. This type of reckless youth activities is common to see in Naples. Even if, it was nice to enjoy and hang around in the streets.

Most of the time, roads are crowded with people. Specially, in the evening. My relatives advise me to not to wear valuables and gold jewelleries since there is risk of stealing them. So, I kept my camera at home and used my phone to take the photos. But I must say, that I did not face that kind of unpleasant experience during my stay even if, some people recommend Naples as a dangerous tourist destination. Furthermore, I must emphasize that this city is famous for illegal activities and mafia. So, pay attention on your valuables all the time.

Napolitano language is bit difficult than the normal Italian language. Even if, it would not be a problem to speak during your travel.

I reached there by train after five hours journey from Verona. The train ticket cost was around 80 euro, which was reasonable in that period. I would recommend going by train is the best way rather than driving your own vehicle due to unsecured parking places and the thieves.

You can freely walk in the streets. Besides that, you can rent bicycle and group of bicycles to ride with your friends and family. The prices are reasonable and you can enjoy a lot.

The knowledge about the hotels and other accommodations is limited since I was accommodated by my relatives. But according to the details I have heard about, there are lot of accommodations for a reasonable price. You can find lot of hostels and B&B in Naples. Besides that, there are good restaurants to enjoy the sea foods and many other typical foods. So, enjoy during your stay, while visiting the historical places.
