Experience in Spain

Last year this same period I was already tanned and I was feeling quite relaxed living la vida loca in Spain, in Murcia. Murcia is the green corner on the south of Spain, here in the map you can find it just between the Valencian Comunidad in orange on the south east coast and Andalucia, the yellow huge place marked in the very deep south of the peninsula and that is on the coast. Facing the Mediterranean sea, Ceuta and Melilla, that even if they are in Africa they are certainly part of Spain.

I was in a sunny city, maybe one of the most sunny cities of the all Spain and I was there for the spring/summer time, which I believe to be the best time to spend in such a summery place as Spain undoubtedly is.

I have already wrote my experience in Murcia. Both texts are in Italian (I hope you all can understand Italian by now, joking! ) in which I talk about my experience in Murcia and another one where I talked all about the city, prices, accommodation, what to do, what to visit, therefore I would like to spend here few words about the whole experience of working for Erasmusu and travelling around Spain and finally I would love to do some critics here as I am always pretty positive about everything really.

Erasmus experience working

The Erasmus started pretty well because Murcia is an amazing place, sunny, lovely food, cheap, chilled. The office at Erasmusu is a very nice environment, people are welcoming and it is very motivating to work for the website. I was translating and creating content which was very inspiring and I loved it as I love languages and writing. Could you guess? Lol.

The fact that I had somewhere to go everyday and to work for, it was a perfect deal with me as I would otherwise be quite lazy and be at home all day long. I luckily had the all afternoon free and therefore I would have had free time to do whatever I wanted. I would have gone out with my friends, to the gym or if it happened to be on a Friday I would have left the city to go and visit a different place during the weekend.

What to visit

Where about? Near Murcia you should go visit some places that are amazingly outstanding, for example Cartagena, where you can definitely visit the historic city, have a nice seafood lunch and take a little sun in the dock. Alicante, Las Fuentes del Algar near Benidorm, which are absolutely breathtaking waterfalls to visit and actually to experience, because yes you can enter with your swimsuit and enjoy the day by swimming and take the sun and have lunch there, I strongly recommend this place.

And finally, you could also visit Benidorm, the English village, as every tourists that land in Alicante either stay at Benidorm for their stay or they ultimately decide to live there, either way, it is full on English native speaker, hint, hint.

Apart from the Murcia's neighbours, you should visit, of course, the most important cities of Spain, if you have the chance of course. Here I leave you a list of the cities I think you should visit like you need to visit them before you leave Spain. And we don't talk about the islands here, so you can in a way or another go to all these cities, by bus, train, bla bla car (which is very used in Spain) you could share with some friends! Eventually you could instead, take a plane if you find a good deal, above all to reach places like Bilbao if you are in the South, a flight could be the best way to go.

Cities to visit

Cities that you need to visit, no excuses admitted:

  1. Barcelona
  2. Valencia
  3. Madrid
  4. Seville
  5. Cordoba
  6. Granada
  7. Malaga
  8. Santiago de Compostela
  9. Bilbao
  10. Murcia

Claro, it will not be possible to visit all of them, but you can surely visit at least 7 cities out of 10.

I have been to Barcelona, where without a doubt you absolutely need to go for:

  1. Art
  2. Food
  3. Nightlife
  4. Beaches

And here there is a link to my experience in Barcelona, in two parts: part one and part two.

Valencia has the same point as Barcelona and Madrid is the capital so there is obviously one more reason to go to visit it.

All the others cities are quite peculiars and less modern because they reflects the folklore of their regions. Andalucía, in fact, is very traditional and the environment is very unique. So you need to go to Seville for the enchanted city that it is and for assisting to a Flamenco show, as Seville is definitely the capital of Flamenco.

And you can click the source of this picture as it is the website of the place where the Flamenco's shows take place in Seville.

And here I attach the link to my article about Seville, where I share my thought about the city, but mostly where I describe Plaza de España, one of my favourite place on Earth.

Murcia

Finally, Murcia is not that much to see but there are very nice places to go nearby and my experience was very good, therefore I suggest to pay a visit to the city, go to have a tapas experience, because with Granada, trust me is one of the best place ever! You need to try la Marinera and you can also try a night out in the city, as the night lifestyle is the top. At work and at night and for the people that I met I must admit to be quite happy of the time I spent there, however here's some downsides you need to be aware of and you need to prepare for before you live for your year abroad or even if you just feel like go to visit Spain.

And I do have to apologise here for all those cities and places that I haven't mention here, because I know that Spain has so many beauty to offer and I feel guilty to not have been able to visit all of them, and I consequently feel very guilty to not mention those places in my posts and for you guys to advice you on those places.

I really hope that many of you can visit so much more places than I had and then share your experience with all of us here in Erasmusu, which could be very helpful and inspiring.

Tips

  1. Choose wisely your flatmates, mine came down to be very bad companies and not tidy at all.
  2. Choose wisely in which city you go, there are few that hosts too many cockroach, a real nightmare.
  3. If you don't like the heat avoid the South, it could go very hot during summer time (example would be Murcia that reached about 45 degree last summer, I am a survivor, so I can tell! ), otherwise just bring a lotion as it is a sun that is not likely any other, really tough one and get ready to have fun and swim and enjoy the sun. I suggest Valencia for sure.
  4. Don't miss any chance to travel and to meet new people.
  5. Don't say you don't like something if you haven't tried it first, experience the Spanish culture at its best.
  6. And finally, what I think is the most important thing of all, share! Share your experience with people so that they can take advantage of knowing things they would otherwise not know at all.

Share

Share without being too critical, though, because remember that we all different and we do experience things in a very and completely personal way, therefore what could be good for me, it's maybe not that good for you.

But ultimately, share your experience with your friends and the people that you love, then share it online, so that many other people like you can read and be inspired.

Have a blast in Spain people!
