What is it like to live in Munich? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I love Munich. I've been living here for 15 years now and I'm proud to call it home. Surely, some people consider Munich "posh", which in some cases it really is. But it just feels good to live in such a safe environment. Munich is also a very beautiful place to be, with lovely gardens, buildings and landscape. It also is neither too big nor too small, just the right size.

The public transportation is just great, you get everywhere without a car. Frankly speaking, people in Munich tend to be a little bit cold and unfriendly but it's not too bad comparing to other places (e. g. Paris! ). You also have to keep in mind that Munich is the most expensive city in Germany, but you can always live a little bit outside of the town centre and you've got phenomenal transportation options. Night's life is nothing comparable to Berlin, but it is alright, I guess, you just have to know the right spots to go.

What is the student lifestyle like in Munich?

Students here struggle a lot to pay the rent. Those who don't have posh parents who pay their rents and they usually live in the town centre - which is a really great place to live. We students enjoy to relax along the river Isar and go to one of the many lakes in the summer. We drink a lot of bear and mostly just enjoy going to "Biergarten" and bars.

How much does it cost to live in Munich?

A lot. Rent's about 300-400€, depending where you want to live. But groceries are alright. You can eat cheep and good in Munich. Clubs and Bars are not too expensive. I think the only real expensive thing about Munich are the rents.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Munich? Is there any advice you can give?

It is alright I guess. I would start early to look for an accommodation. I know there are places (like London) where you can move in asap, but not in Munich. The Germans like to know stuff in advance.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Bavarian food is amazing. A lot of meat though. I am a Vegetarian therefore I enjoy good potatoes and bread. Try Brezel, Knödel, Schweinebraten.

What places would you recommend visiting in Munich?

Königsplatz, Odeonsplatz, Englischer Garten en Gärtnerplatz.

Is it good to eat out in Munich? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, I like it. L'Osteria is a Italian restaurant. Go to the L'Osteria in "Karlsplatz/Stachus" at a place called "Künstlerhaus". It has a beautiful interior decoration.

What advice would you give future students heading to Munich?

Do some savings and live in the centre of Munich. With 500€ a month you get a room at the very heart of Munich, which is really lovely. I love the areas Maxvorstadt, Schwabing, Glockenbachviertel.
