My Mumbai, My Life

I live in the city of Mumbai. Formerly, it was called Bombay, till Mr. Shiv Sena had something to say. The party went on a renaming spree and renamed everything having anything to do with England. Wonder why they still allow it to be spelt in English! They renamed Victoria Terminus to 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus', they renamed the Airport to 'Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport', irrespective of whether domestic or international flights operate on it. They renamed almost every road in town, so that they themselves have to keep lengthy records to remember them in their 'speeches'. They are a bunch of goons (their leader), and now that they lost the election, there are some more goons, only better at the trade, coming in to replace them!

Well, now for the less gruesome part of this great city! Mumbai gets its name from the Goddess Mumbadevi. Some of the well known spots in the city include Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Chowpatty, Juhu Beach, the Prince of Wales Museum etc. It is quite a 'tourist spot', and you can 'spot' the odd 'tourist' in and around the town. It's got great amusement parks in and around it, like Esselworld, Fantasyland, Water Kingdom, Tikujiniwadi (phew!) etc.

Mumbai is the home to Bollywood, which is in turn self explanatory, because all, if not most, Hindi films are copied from Hollywood films. A whole lot of film stars stay in various parts of Mumbai, most in the suburbs. Those like numero uno Shahrukh Khan are fortunate enough to stay at a 20 min. walk from the very place I typed this from (home). Mumbai is also home to the ace batsman, Sachin 'Bradman' Tendulkar. Oh, by the way, he's also the ace advertiser - Sachin 'Pepsi''VISA ''MRF''Colgate' Tendulkar. For timepass, he goes to a cricket match and knocks a few balls around, gets a few centuries, and goes back to his sponsors! [hope u dont mind Sachin].

Thats all I can think of putting, or rather painfully typing into this webpage... why don't you come and have a look yourself? Its so safe that the government says there's not a single gangster (popularly called 'bhai', the word other-wise means brother; cant see why a gangster should be brotherly!) left in the city. I guess they got scared of the 'pandu' hawaldars! Well, you need to be one to know about one... The very fact that the govt. knows so much about the gangsters... you get my point, right!

Above all, gangster or no gangster, celebrity or no celebrity, this is THE best place in the world for its people!
