What is it like to live in Mumbai? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

To an outsider (even from other cities in India), Mumbai is maddening. A live wire may be an apt analogy. There are people everywhere - rushing to work, living on the streets. The city truly never sleeps. If you are looking for a quite spot, you'll have to really search. But if you are the pumped-up, get going kind then you would fit well in the city.

How much does it cost to live in Mumbai?

on a monthly basis - INR 30,000 ($500)

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Mumbai? Is there any advice you can give?

It is a bit time consuming, but most accommodations can be finalized in a fortnight. Usually people network through contacts or get hold of a broker. There are a few online rental agencies (magicbricks, 99acres). The best way is through your personal contacts (even brokers should be approached through contacts)

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There is an awesome variety of food - especially cuisines from different parts of India. Many upscale restaurants provide global cuisine. Some of the must try dishes are Pav Bhaji, Biryani. For people who are considering opting for a vegetarian liefstyle, India is the best place to begin. Also ensure that you have an Indian friend who can invite you for a homemade meal.
