What is it like to live in Mumbai? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Mumbai is one of the best cities in the world that has a mix of everything. You will find everything here in extremes. The poorest slums stand in a poetic irony against the backdrop of one of the most expensive skyrise in the world. The same people who are uninvolved to the point of it seeming aloofness and indifference will go to crazy extents to help you in times of need. The city has a life of its own, it makes you fall in love with itself, the mild humid salty fragrance, the breathtaking breeze of the ocean, the unspoken warmth of the crowds, the simplicity of the struggling middle class, the honesty and integrity of the people... The city is a wonder. Its overcrowded and its stench can be overwhelming but if there be a place worth living in in India, this is it...

What is the student lifestyle like in Mumbai?

Mumbai is one the most modern cities in the country, its culture is not very different from that of a New York. The students like a good lifestyle. They work hard and party harder. Mumbai has excellent weekend getaway options which students explore. They engage themselves in a variety of activities to keep busy. There's something for everyone, be it your dancer, your musician, your theatre artists, your athlete or just someone who likes to stare into space and do nothing. The city is a commercial hub and companies always seek interns for live projects which forms excellent ground for industrial exposure.

How much does it cost to live in Mumbai?

Mumbai is one of the most expensive cities in the world. The cost of living is very high. Money bleeds in groceries, vegetables, accommodation, transportation and day to day expenses. It's not easy on the pocket. Having said that, there are cheaper options for everything provided one is willing to give up on some comfort. Shared accommodations, local trains as a choice of transport etc. can help smooth the monthly budget.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Mumbai? Is there any advice you can give?

Accommodation is expensive and difficult to find in a nice locality with desired specifications. There are many options but difficult to find a good one and needs to keep looking for places. Online is full of fraud so avoid it, physically looking at a place is important. Sharing basis can help save a lot of money. There are many cheap options for students. Universities generally keep a list of brokers and PGs that give accommodations to students year on year, taking this list and using it in your search can be extremely helpful.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Maharashtran typical food is neither too spicy nor bland. There are breakfast options like Poha, Upma, Vada and Idli. The famous street food includes Dabeli and Vada Pav (the spicier option is Misel Pao). There are famous rolls in front of Gokul's at Colaba that one must try. Chaat food can be tried at Elco's at Bandra.

What places would you recommend visiting in Mumbai?

Marine Drive, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Taraporewala aquarium, Bandra fort and bandstand, Nariman Point, Chowpatty beach, Prithvi theatre, NCPA, Gateway of India, Haji Ali, Worli seaface, Fort, Juhu beach, Essel World and Water Kingdom, Elephanta caves, Ajanta Ellora caves...

Is it good to eat out in Mumbai? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, Mumbai provides every cuisine of the world, both original and suited to Indian taste. There are some excellent places to eat in Bandra and at Marine Drive. Pizza by the bay serves authentic exquisite Italian, Five Spices is well known for its Chinese, BBQ Nation for continental, Mahesh's for sea food, Good luck cafe for Indian food....

Is the nightlife good in Mumbai? Where is good to go?

Mumbai has one of the best nightlife. One can find any kind of night they hope for. It is known as 'the city that never sleeps'... One can even stay at Marine Drive all night long. Colaba has some very good options. Alternatively, Lower Parel also gives many choices. Cafe Leopold, Cafe Mondegar, Woodstock Inn, Pop Tate's, Jughead's, Blue Frog, Manchester united Bar, HRC are some good places to be.

What advice would you give future students heading to Mumbai?

Be ready to have the time of your life and an experience like none you can imagine!
