The Bonus card system in Ljubljana

Oh, it's great to be a student in Ljubljana! At least it was, for me. The magical student card that opened every restaurant for me and allowed me to have every meal in a different part of the town, was great! I was having different national cuisines, feeling like a boss rather than as a poor, budget-aware student that I was... My Erasmus time in Ljubljana really was memorable.

La Cantina Mexicana

Out of all the restaurants I tried while I was in the town, my very favourite was the Cantina Mexicana, hidden in a small street in the city centre, but well-known to students: there were huge lines there whenever the time of lunch or dinner approached; and for a good reason.

I am very, VERY particular about my food. I don't like vegetables, I don't like food that is too spicy, too bitter, too anything, and I was pretty sceptical the first time I came, since Mexican cuisine really isn't my cup of tea. However, the restaurant intrigued me, for a several reasons:

1. The decor: it is a really awesomely decorated restaurant! Laid back and relaxed, walls, floors, ceiling, everything is decorated in a true rural-Mexican style and the atmosphere of the place is perfect for a student.
2. The food: it is just great! The wonderful corn and chicken soup is something that you feel like you could eat a gallon of, sometimes becoming so full that you don't really feel the need to order anything else. It was the most delicious thing I ate in Ljubljana. And then, all the main courses: there are so many to choose from, and there is something there for everyone. Another awesome thing is that the portions are really gigantic, you can easily share one with a friend and still remain well fed.
3. Made for students: another thing I really liked about this restaurant is the fact that you can drink water with your meal and not have to pay for a special drink. As a student, and a person who always drinks water with her meals, I was really happy that ordering water isn't looked upon as strange or cheap, but something absolutely normal.

Feeling like Home

These are some of the reasons why I always felt so comfortable and relaxed in this restaurant. It felt like home, in a way. And that is why I took all my friends who visited me while I was in Ljubljana living the Erasmus life in Cantina Mexicana. And everyone loved it!
