The city, together with Porto, older than Rome, Paris or London!
Hey, guys! The star today is Lisbon!
São Jorge Castle (Castelo de São Jorge)
This important fortress in Lisbon wins my applauses for the Dark Chamber (‘Câmara Escura’ in Portuguese) and the amazing view over Lisbon, especially the 25 de Abril Bridge, considered the twin sister of The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
The ‘Câmara Escura’ provides 360 degrees detailed views of the city in real time, including its monuments, most emblematic areas, the Tagus river and the bustle of Lisbon itself.
There are guided tours in three languages (Portuguese, Spanish and English) pretty often, around every 30 minutes.
Time Out Market
What a great name for a food hall close to the ocean! You get hungry and get inside this place that has diverse food. It’s awesome that you don’t have to order a whole meal, just some samples from the Portuguese exquisite cuisine!
Explore its surroundings and tell me if you find the next beautiful wall painting!
Pastéis de Belém
I showed you my favourite Portuguese dessert, pastéis de nata here.
Well, my advice is, if you come to Lisbon, to go to Santa Maria de Belém neighbourhood, because there are a lot of ‘must see’ places around.
It is said that the original recipe of nata is known only here. In my opinion, it’s really delicious indeed, but I also enjoyed the nata from ‘Nata Lisboa – The World Needs Nata’ and you can find this one in Porto.
After a good breakfast, we visited the Navy Museum (Museu de Marinha) and the Belém Tower (Torre de Belém), both offer a lot of interesting information about the rich history of the adventurous Portuguese people.
The seven hills of Lisbon – perfect ‘miradouros’
Legends tell that Lisbon was born like Rome, between seven hills. There are actually eight, but they just wanted to be similar to the famous Italian city, and depend on the curious, mystical number seven.
Anyhow, they consist in perfect viewpoints (‘miradouros’ in Portuguese) over the capital of Portugal.
Thank you very much for reading!
