What is it like to live in Lisbon? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Living in Lisbon is a cultural experience! People are friendly, the food is the best and the architecture make us feel like in another century. The environment is warm and has interesting places for an afternoon with friends or a night of partying. I highly recommend life in this town! It is a unique experience.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lisbon?
There are several university centers but everyone has a good academic environment and welcome foreign students. The normal day-to-day of a student in Lisbon will be spent at the University and in ideal places to study or spend time hanging out and just to sharing cultures.
How much does it cost to live in Lisbon?
The rents are around the 300 euro per month and you can spend on food about 250 euro, but, of course, it depends on where you choose to live in Lisbon.
In the case of the University of Lisbon there are canteens and residences which enable an experience very inexpensively.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lisbon? Is there any advice you can give?
Search rooms which has already got a good review, it will be easier for you and you will find cheaper rooms because they are designed for students. Once in Lisbon probably your mean of transportation is the metro so try to search houses in the metro line near the college you will attend.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is great, but Lisbon has already different types of restaurants that will give you the possibility of eat food of almost all cultures. The typical Portuguese food are: "Bacalhau Assado", "cozido à portuguesa" and "Carne de Porco à alentejana".
What places would you recommend visiting in Lisbon?
There are hundreds of places you should visit in Lisbon. Some are hidden amongst the narrow alleys of the town, so the best thing for you to do is venture and discover them! Full of ancient history and a contemporary lifestyle, Lisbon perfectly combines old and new.
Descending the Chiado and Bairro Alto, you will find some of the most modern restaurants and bars in Lisbon. During the day the streets fill with animated crowds strolling the museums of modern art, the brand shops, the art galleries, the grocery stores that sell coffee or the gourmet products.
From downtown to the Marquês de Pombal Square you will see a different Lisbon, with theatres, train stations, cafés and large squares where to walk. Head to Belém to see the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery, the famous Tower of Belém and the many museums that surround it. Don't forget to taste the famous Pastéis de Belém.
Is it good to eat out in Lisbon? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
It's great to eat in Lisbon. I suggest the restaurants of downtown Lisbon, on the pier of Alcântara and in Belém.
Is the nightlife good in Lisbon? Where is good to go?
Yes, you should look for "Santos" or "Bairro Alto".
What advice would you give future students heading to Lisbon?
Bring a map and discover Lisbon for adventure, because the best places are discovered by chance!
