Why did you choose to go to Lisbon, Portugal?

I am student of portuguese language and litarature at Masaryk university, so I decided to go to Lisbon, because I wanted to improve my language skills. It was the best decision I have ever did.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

5 months
400 per month

What is the student lifestyle like in Lisbon?

Crazy!
Many parties and Erasmus events. You should visit Saldanha it's park with a lot of students and cheap beer. And also very famous Bairro Alto.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Lisbon to other students?

Yes, Lisabon is one of the most beutiful cities I have ever seen. People here are very friendly, specially guys :D
University of Lisabon is also good, but you should be prepared for no system at Faculty of Arts.

What is the food like?

You have to try bacalhau and pastel de nata. But the most important is very cheap wine, bottle for less than 2 euro. Vinho verde is very tasty.

How much does it cost to live in Lisbon?

Rent is about 250 euro per month,
travelling card is 35 per month,
other things depend on you, if you want a social life or if you wanna travel and also if you don't want to eat pasta everyday, you will need more than 400 from scholarship.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It's very difficult. First month I thought they speak different language. They speak very fast and it's very hard to understand. And also Portugues who speak english don't want to talk with you in portugues if you don't speak really good. But only people at university speak english. The language courses are very helpful (75euro per semester)

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lisbon from your city?

They also don't have a system in transport, I am here since February (now it's June) and I still don't understand bus timetable, and I don't think it's my fault. Best way to travel is by metro.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lisbon?

Bairro Alto,
Pink Street,
Mini Campus which is near the campus- cheap beer
SALDANHA
I love park near the Marquis de Pombal square

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lisbon?

Near the metro station Restauradores there are plenty restaurants.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Oriente, MAAT museum, Oceanário de Lisboa, Belém, Alfama,Porta do sol...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lisbon in the future?

You should visit Cascais and Cabo da Roca, Sintra, Setúbal, Costa da Caparica, praia de Carcavelhos, Praia da Ursa...
