What is it like to live in Liege? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
There's little to visit Liege, and the weather is often rainy. But aside from that, the city is full of students and places to party. There is a lot of things during the year, and folklore is very present. I would not recommend Liège for its beauty or its weather, but for her human warmth.
What is the student lifestyle like in Liege?
There are many events organized by student organizations for students. Apart from that, there is a small area called "Le Carré" ("The Square") where there are many bars and is never closed.
How much does it cost to live in Liege?
The rent for a kot is around 200-400 €. A loaf of bread costs about € 1. A beer costs € 1. 80.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Liege? Is there any advice you can give?
I don't know. I think that the university offers assistance finding housing service.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
In Liege, there are many places where you can eat fries, Belgian specialty. Otherwise, the city is full of small restaurants very friendly. If you do not have the time to sit down, I recommend the "Sucré-Salé" which is located on the French Republic Square and offers very good pasta and other snacks.
What places would you recommend visiting in Liege?
Without hesitation, the slopes of the citadel. It is a green area with a beautiful view of the city. If you're lucky enough to be in Liege in October, visit the Night-slopes, which is a nice way to discover the site by candlelight.
Is it good to eat out in Liege? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
There are a lot of sandwich shop for students in Liege. If you are in the faculty of philosophy and letters, I recommend the "Fournil de Lucifer", located close to the university.
Is the nightlife good in Liege? Where is good to go?
There are many parties in Liege. February to mid-March is the period of "chapi" ("tents"). For four or five weeks, each faculty organizes the evening turns into the big tent located in Val-Benoît. Caution, it's "guindailles", boots and aprons chemistry are the rule, and do not be afraid to get dirty. During the rest of the year, "Le Carré" which I mentioned above never stops living. There is also the Saint-Nicolas (early December) and St. Torê (which terminates the period of the capitals in mid-March), which are major events in student life.
What advice would you give future students heading to Liege?
Do not be afraid to reach out to other students, who will be very happy to share with you their lifestyle. In Liege, there are many buses, it will be very useful to have a covering all the lines so you can move smoothly subscription. Last tip: have fun!
