Erasmus Experience in Liege, Belgium by Selin
Why did you choose to go to Liege, Belgium?
Liege is middle of the west Europe and too easy to travels.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I have no scholarship.
What is the student lifestyle like in Liege?
There are too many festivals and parties for students. You can join different populations. Liege is small and silent city. After 6 pm, you can't find an open shop. But this city is more enjoyable with other Erasmus students :)
Would you recommend the city and the University of Liege to other students?
I think Liege is small and cute. If you aren't in a big expectation you will be happy here.
What is the food like?
Waffle is most popular thing in Liege. They call "Gaufre de Liege" and I think it's so delicious :) Beers and french fries are good options. Generally, I cook my meal because eating outside is expensive for a student.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Liege?
Before I came to Liege, I was looking renting a "kot" (it means private room) sites on internet but I decided to book a temporary room in Sart Tilman (there is residence for students, 10-13 euro per day). After I found a apartment in city centre. It costs 310 euro per month.
How much does it cost to live in Liege?
It is about your level of spending. Accommodation, food, transportation (15, 5 euro per month bus subscription) and other stuffs it costs 450-500 euro.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, ULG has language course, but I haven't got any detail about it.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Liege from your city?
There is only one way to go from İstanbul to Liege and it is easy :) you can go by plane.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Liege Catedral is fascinating. Opera Royal de Wallonie and Place de Provincial are historical. You can go Paris and Amsterdam 13 euro by bus (from Brussels). Liege has great location to travel to other countries.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Liege in the future?
Being an Erasmus student, it might be the most beautiful thing in your life. Don't change your decision. Take your warm clothes (Liege soo cold :)) and enjoy your experience!
