Would you recommend the city and the University of Liege to other students?

I recommend Liège, it's a beautiful city, with people ready to help and nice environment. In respect to the university, the friends I've made here are quite happy with theirs but I've had a bad experience with the science faculty. The classes are OK but the administrative issues are a nightmare, the schedules a mess and I haven't received much help or information from the university. I recommend to triple check your Learning Agreement and to still be prepared for the problems you're going to face when you arrive.

What is the food like?

The gastronomy is really good, I specially recommend the boulets, the vol-au-vient and Polux's waffles. Prices in restaurants can be a bit expensive for a student (15€/plate) but the cafeteria of the university offers the same tasty food at a much lower price (4€/plate).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

There're French courses available at the university for only 100€. Of course, the language is easier if your mother language is a latin language but anyhow, is a good opportunity to improve or learn French. Apart from that, many Belgian people are fluent in English and they are willing to practice it.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Liege?

Undoubtfully, Le Carré. Lot of bars concentrated in a few streets offer a great night occasion. Le Celtic bar is also always full of Erasmus and you can't miss a beer in Pot au Laît, a very "interesting" bar.

Also, in order to keep track of the parties, you should look for the ESN group in Facebook.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

I recommend to take the train an to go discover Belgium. Tickets (specially the GoPass) are cheap and you can traverse Belgium in less than 2 hours
