Would you recommend the city and the University of Liege to other students?

It's a nice city, but if you prefer big cities go somewhere else or don't stay for the whole year. I've stayed for 7 months and it was enough. When you are in Liège for 3 months, things start to be a little boring. Same people, same places, all the same every day. The good thing is: Charleroi airport, anyway it was an amazing experience!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Liege?

I found it at the site kot a Liège, but I don't recommend the place (Erasmus house - read the advices i wrote).

How much does it cost to live in Liege?

  • Rent: 460 (but it's easy to find cheaper places).
  • Supermaket: 80.
  • Bus: 14.

(Euros per month).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

Actually there is no other option. It's not very easy to find people who speak English on the street or in any other places so it's really necessary to learn French (if this is your point so it's very good to be there cause you will practice a lot). There is a course at ULG, but it's very basic, I'd recommend to do an intensive course.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Liege from your city?

I live in Brazil so the only way to go is by plane and it's expensive.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Liege?

  • Point de vue.
  • Pot au lait.
  • Cubar (monday's night).
  • Le soleil.
  • Le carré is very nice :)

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Liege?

Gaufre is amazing! Try it! French fries over there are very good too :) The most famous place to eat French fries is in front of Le Carré, so eat it after partying over there! There is a very good restaurant called Les Caves, it's in downtown near ULG, the food is very good and it's cheap but it's food from Portugal it's not Belgian food.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Liege?

  1. Dont stay at Erasmus house (the one after the bridge. Rue Macel thiry) Its very expensive (460 euros - small room, bathroom and restroom shared with 6 other people) and the owner is totally crazy he didn't give me back my caution (Its was almost 1000 euros). He has an Erasmus house and doesn't even speaks english, so if you have any problems it's not possible to talk to him. Cold water at least 4 days per month (even when is winter), Reaaaally bad! If you wanna live with others Erasmus (what I recommend) go to City living (its a building just for students near ULG and Le carré, its the same price but the room is way better).
  2. Travel a lot! Travel in Belgium using a Go Pass (50 euros for 10 trips and you can share it with whoever you want) You can get one at the train station.
  3. Enjoy Le Carré. You will miss it!

  4. Enjoy Sart Tilman campus, go there once even if you don't have classes there. It's a very nice place.
  5. Dont miss St Torè! Its a very nice party! And it's at Sart tilman campus.
  6. Go to Chapiteau at least once! When you hear about it (and you will) you will think it's a little weird but don't miss it! It's the kind of thing you must go to tell your friends when you come back home.
  7. Go to Maastricht (the nearest dutch city). The carnaval there is very nice!
  8. Eat gaufre (it's veeery good! ) and french fries (shouldn't be french but ok).
  9. Drink peket.
  10. Get used to the cold weather, Liège is cold all the year!

Drink lots of beer! You will be in the country of the beer.
