Why did you choose to go to Liege, Belgium?

To learn French.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

3 months for Erasmus Practicum. 250€/month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Liege?

For practices in the Hospital, it's from 8am till the end of the world... they never stop! Sometimes staying until 7-8pm. You have to ask for leaving sooner so as to study... or eat!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Liege to other students?

Definitely! The University looks after you and solves any problem you can have. They are very kind and patient. Any problem you can meet the coordinators in International Relations department in "place 20 aout", if you ask for a randez-vous first.

What is the food like?

Fried. Anything you can imagine, fry it: that's Belgium.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Liege?

Yes, many landlords ask you to stay minimum 5 months, so that was a problem for me as I was just looking for 3. But there are many women renting their son's rooms or a landlord with a big heart that let you stay less.

How much does it cost to live in Liege?

450€/month (eating poorly and not wasting a lot in parties, as I tried to do).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

They offer you French courses, don't miss the deadlines to subscribe in it! They are really good! French is easy to get if you come from a Latin language, if you don't, Liége citizens are very patient and stay until they understand what you mean.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Liege from your city?

Plane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Liege?

Le Carré is the most famous, I prefer Outermouse and its alternative bars.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Liege?

No, too expensive for my pocket!

There's a good waffle place next to the cathedral, with apple, strawberry or cinnamon waffle :)

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Opera, Cathedral, Monument to 1st World war behind Guillemins Station, many expositions...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Liege in the future?

Watch out at night, try not to be alone going back home (nothing happened to me but I listened so many stories from colleagues). Travel a lot and find your place in Liége, there's city for any person, any style and any ambition, just try to look for it ;)
