De Werf

Hi everyone!

Let´s talk about food now. De Werf is the most popular restaurant for students in Leuven (and so it was an important place to visit during the first few days! ). So, even if you´re just in Leuven for a few months, you should go there at least once.

De Werf is a bar and restaurant situated five minutes away from Grote Markt and Oude Markt, so it´s super central. They serve everything in this bar, from sandwiches and pasta to wraps. And the most important thing: the price is super super reasonable. However, if you go, make sure you leave some room free for a dessert. I´d recommend the petit beurre taart (which can be seen in the photo, although it doesn´t do it justice haha), la mousse de chocolate, the speculoos cake and chocolate cake. Actually, I recommend everything - we´ll leave it at that. They have the best desserts I´ve ever had, I promise you.

The prettiness of the surrounding area and the presentation of the dishes is unique, and though the decoration looks unfinished it also gives the restaurant a unique personality. Oh yes! Since it´s such a popular restaurant, there´s usually a queue to get a table, so avoid visiting at the times when Belgians typically eat - you could easily end up having to wait for at least an hour. If you have to wait though, you are served soup and delicious chocolate biscuits (which, at the end of the day, is definitely not a bad part of waiting! )

One negative point - since it´s a student bar, it´s closed at the weekends since many of the local students tend to go home then. During the week though, I really suggest you go there.
