What is the student lifestyle like in Dresden?

Dresden is a town of students with a long tradition and a great student culture. 45000 students are currently studying in Dresden and there are 14 student clubs, supported by the student service agency of Dresden. In fact, there is a great and wide spread culture of party, clubs and nightlife, especially in the district "Dresden - Neustadt".

How much does it cost to live in Dresden?

It is cheaper than the average costs overall of Germany. Rent for student hall rooms 200 - 350 €. Costs for food ca. 200 € per month.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Dresden? Is there any advice you can give?

A very good possibility for finding an accommodation is the portal wg-gesucht.de. It's the most famous portal for shared appartements withe the largest community. Also the student service agency of Dresden holds a large amount of guest housings for exchange students.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Typical german food:

  • Kassler-meat with potatoes and peas.
  • Salmon with flat noodles and leaf-spinach.
  • Drinking: tea, beer, coffee.

What places would you recommend visiting in Dresden?

Historical part, including: Semperoper, Frauenkirche, Zwinger, campus of Dresden University of Technology, bars and clubs of district Dresden Neustadt.

Begin early to look for accommodation! Especially if you're not able to get an exchange student housing. There's always a great demand of shared appartements.
